There's a new joint called Bowl of Pho on South Miami where Chubby's used to be. I had the banh mi on Saturday, and it was good. Sonia had the pho with rare sliced steak, and she said it was better than Pho 9N9.Check out their site: http://bowlofphodurham.com/

thought this said "BOHN MI"...whoops!
3/30/2015 1:33:57 PM

This is on my list of things to make when sister visits next week.I'm thinking pork belly and shrimp.

^I've made it before. It was a lot of work but turned out better than restaurant pho because the broth was a lot more concentrated. When I was boiling the neck bones, etc. it tasted like ass and I thought I ruined it because it tasted awful (this was post chill and skim) but when you throw in the spices, fish sauce, etc. it's like a magical transformation. If you make it, I'd recommend making as big of a batch as you can and freezing the leftover broth because once you have that it makes for super cheap and fast meals.[Edited on March 31, 2015 at 10:39 AM. Reason : thought you meant pho but the point still stands]

^set pot for low simmer for 24hours son. thats how we do back in 'Nam (and over here).
3/31/2015 10:41:01 AM
Just got back from Bowl of Pho. It was among the best pho I've ever had, great recommendation Frosh

Has anyone tried the Thai House Cuisine on Wake Forest behind the Aldi?[Edited on March 31, 2015 at 2:22 PM. Reason : sorry, not vietnamese, about 150 miles away]
3/31/2015 2:21:17 PM
^I have not. But I'm down! Is it close to you? Let me know if you're down for lunch or whatever. I'll guzzle extra spicy soups cause I love it."Bowl of Pho," which is a horrible name, was pretty good to me. I had the Vietnamese salad without the dressing, and it was legitimately tasty.
3/31/2015 5:22:49 PM
^^ I used to go there a bunch...damn good food.

So the lady that used to own Dalat has opened a new place at 40/42 in Garner called 42 Funland, it's like a chucky cheese, they do pizza, but they also do the banh mi. I just hit it up for the first time and it was fucking tasty. Nice to have another food option around garner that isn't just a shitty chain serving American food, plus I'd been craving some banh mi for awhile, hopefully they can stick around for awhile.
