"Rogue One is the title for the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga. Rogue One will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Godzilla) and written by Oscar nominee Chris Weitz (Cinderella, About a Boy, Antz). The first actress cast is Felicity Jones, who garnered an Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim for her performance in The Theory of Everything. The idea for the story of Rogue One came from John Knoll, an Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor and chief creative officer at Industrial Light & Magic. He will executive produce along with Simon Emanuel (The Dark Knight Rises, Fast & Furious 6) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds). Kathleen Kennedy and Tony To (Band of Brothers, The Pacific) are on board to produce and John Swartz (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will co-produce. The film starts shooting this summer in London and is due for release on December 16, 2016."

so we get to see the same stuff that happened in every single rogue squadron game right

If I never have to wrap a line around an AT-AT again it will be too soon.

I guess this is where we find out how Princess Leia obtained the plans that she uploaded to R2D2.

I would think they could have come up with a better plot that didn't involve the same weapon we've seen in 3 Star Wars films already. Could be interesting though.

Hey, no lightsabers! This pleases me! Although I love seeing Jedis and Sith wrecking shit, I'm glad they didn't try to shoehorn something in with lightsabers. Especially since at this point chronologically only Palpatine, Vader, Kenobi, and Yoda should have one.

I will be surprised if we didn't see one or two. Should see Vaders. I am convinced he is in this. Also who the hell is the emperor bowing too at 1:18? Or is that Vader? I love that the possibilities here are endless. This is the first major film without the jedi lore and I for one am looking forward to seeing how the rebels operate and get the plans for the death star vs the jedi always wrecking shit up. I honestly think this will be a great standalone Star Wars film. Also the death star reveal with the imperial ship coming into our screen and that shadow coming off the death star as the laser beam thingy is placed into it. OMG! Yes!!!!!

Can someone confirm if the white cape guy is a Grand Admiral? Kinda odd since Tarkin had complete control over the Death Star (political vs military chain of command maybe?)

Grand Moff is like a governor position for a sector of space. Multiple star systems. Example. Grand Moff Tarkin. Very high up. Answerable to possibly only the emperor.

Grand Admiral is very high up in fleet chain of command. Example Grand Admiral Thrawn. He was left in charge of a fleet in the outer rim and left to execute his orders as he saw fit with little oversight.

What we see in the trailer is a grand admiral and not to be confused with grand moff.

More than likely this character is in charge of the fleet guarding the death star that we see in the dish installation scene.

I'm 90% sure of all of that.

its "cool" because they haven't put the time in to know about it because they were so busy doing cool stuff

Youre 90% correct except for this. Admiral Motti (fat cheeked guy Vader half-chokes to death in Ep4) was incharge of the fleet. Thats why he picked the fight over the DS as he didnt believe it would work over his fleet.

Obviously guarding Death Star regardless. If he is head of intelligence/espionage regarding its security, there could be a nice back and forth conflict between him and his counterpart leading that fleet to get resources/priorities/carry out military actions.

With the casting of Mendelsohn and Mikkelsen as characters heavily involved with the empire, I am really hoping that they expand upon the theory and philosophy of the dark side/empire that was touched upon in Episodes IV and VI. It isn't that they are just evil people, but that they believe in order and structure via fear of a doomsday event over politics, hence why the empire is always constructing a WOMD.

It would be nice for them to put more development and characterization into the dark side as opposed to the usual "they just want to control and kill people". It would make for a really great villain.

Rumors of reshooting 40% of the movie to make the tone more in line with A New Hope rather than a war movie. Also to add a cameo by the guy they introduced as the young Han Solo

if the rumors of it changing the tone are true then I'm really disappointed, i liked the trailer and the idea of a more war-story like film. the spinoff is supposed to allow them to do something a little different.

the last film was not good, the feel of this looked fantastic

^^ Some reshoots are normal in movies, things you realize in editing that would help, shots that missed etc. 40% of the movie is well beyond normal

Watching that, Im fine with it being a war movie. Thought they wanted more spin off and less direct relation to the main story line and characters.

Wilso was right, costume was based on ISD:
Quote :
"Mendelsohn, who plays villain Director Krennick, had arrived in costume - flanked by stormtroopers. He described his character as a "smarter villain than most of his predecessors". "

But reading some out of movie bits (Battlefront) says hes some weapons program director with the Death Star.

Oh and James Earl Jones is returning as voice of Darth Vader.
