i'm doing a small amount of remodeling that will end up exposing about 30 square feet of subfloor that isn't currently covered by hardwood floor...so i'm looking to add some flooring, then feather it in and (try to) stain to matchlumber liquidators has "utility oak" on their website, but they don't have it locally and don't know when they'll get more: http://www.lumberliquidators.com/ll/c/Utility-Oak-R.L.-Colston-OA2U/10008112suggestions on other places i can check? i don't need it for another week or twoalso, i know the utility oak is sort of like "seconds"...given that this is the original (60+ years old) floor in the house, i figured it would match better...also, i'd buy 25% extra since i'm sure i'd need to toss out some of it

We get our hardwoods at work from either Horizon Forest Products or Knight's Hardwood Flooring. Don't know if either is open to the public, but you can give them a call.

We got ours at The Hardwood Store in Mebane.http://hardwoodstore.com/This was several years ago, but they were definitely a better price that most places we went to. Also, in case you didn't see it, lumber liquidators was hit with a big scandal recently on 60 minutes when they did a piece to show that they don't necessarily have the highest of quality concerns, at least with some of their pre-finished productshttp://www.cbsnews.com/news/lawmakers-want-answers-after-60-minutes-report-on-lumber-liquidators/I don't know if this would include their unfinished stock, especially if its domestic, but I'd still be a little wary of anything I bought at a large bulk supplier.

White oak? Or red oak? Most of the Lowes i've been in lately have had unfinished red oak planks in their "overstock"/"need to sell asa-fucking-p at super low price" section of the flooring area.[Edited on March 9, 2015 at 8:34 PM. Reason : .]
