My best friend and I just booked a trip there on a whim, and now I'm not really sure why (tix weren't even that cheap).

The one guy I know who lives there says it is awesome, but everyone else now is saying there isn't much to do or see.

Should we rent a car and gtfo of the city? Any recs? He said to stay in Uptown/Knox

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is really cool, the Dallas Museum of Art is supposed to be good too but art isn't my thing so I haven't been. The Sixth Floor Museum is another spot you should probably go too as it is supposed to be good.

Not sure when you will be in town but depending on the season you can pretty much always find a pro sporting event to attend between the Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks, and Stars.

Uptown/Knox is a good place to stay, good food and shops that girls love (shopping is really good here, as a guy I don't really know what direction to point you in for that though). Definitely rent a car though, it is a sprawling city with crappy public transportation.

One of the best things you can do here is eat, some of the best food I have ever had. Some recommendations:

Burger - Maple and Motor. Kind of a dive looking place but one of the best burgers I have ever had
BBQ - Slow Bone. Only open for lunch and the close when they run out of food but if you get there around lunch time you should be fine, might be a wait, might walk right in.
Pizza - For NY Style go to Zoli's, for neapolitan style go to Cane Rosso. Both are owned by the same people and some of the best pizza you will find IMO.

Other restaurants:
Kenny's Wood Fired Grill
Smoke
Hatties
Tillman's Roadhouse

Both Hatties and Tillman's Roadhouse are in the Bishop Arts District. It is an interesting place because you are close to a rather not so nice neighborhood but where the restaurants and shops are are really nice. Can make for good shopping and eating.

Last, you can always head over to Ft Worth and check out the stockyards. Pretty touristy but can be fun.

Just kind of rambled a bit, hope it helped, let me know if you have any questions. I am certainly not the authority on things Dallas but have lived here for close to four years now so I am starting to get the hang of it.

- book depository museum (jfk assassination museum), we could have spent all day there
- there's always some sport team playing, you could go to a stars game
- eat BBQ
- eat Mexican
- go see one of the rodeos in fort worth on Friday night
- see the march of the long horns in fort worth

I go there once a year to visit friends, we have a good time. There are plenty of bars and lots of good food.

I wrote a blog entry for my first trip: http://mikeallover.travellerspoint.com/79/

^^we're going March 12-15. Probably doing an Air B-n-B in Uptown. I was hoping we could just uber everywhere we wanted, or take the Dart rail?

Thanks for the recs - will definitely check out the Slow Bone and one of the pizza places. Any fun bars you recommend? I'm not super into shopping but my friend is, so we will take your advice on that too

I don't know shit for bars, I've been a boring married guy the whole time I have lived here

You can certainly Uber around but you will probably spend a pretty penny and rental cars are pretty cheap, I can see the value in either option. I have never been on the Dart so I can't comment on it, most people I know who have ever used it did so when they commuted from the burbs to downtown. Also, if you are flying into DFW you will probably spend at least $75 to get from the airport to Uptown using Uber or a cab. You could probably cover the cost of a rental car just from that trip alone. I know when I was a little further east in Lakewood it cost that much when I traveled for work. If you are flying into Love you should be find though.

Another thing that can be a lot of fun is Top Golf. It is a driving range but there are big bullseye targets on the range and your balls have a chip in them so the computer knows which target you hit (if you hit one) and keeps score. I am terrible at golf as is my wife and we still enjoy it. They have a bar and food there too but it can get kind of busy.
