I got rear-ended yesterday and the force of the collision was pretty strong. Car still cranked and I was able to pull off in to a parking lot. Once everything was settled and I left the scene, my car started overheating quickly and this had not been happening prior to the accident. I pulled off and filled the radiator up with water to make it home, and once I arrived at my house, I noticed steam/smoke. I popped the hood and could hear a sort of "spewing" noise and could see a lot of moisture and possibly anti-freeze around a certain black, plastic part of the car.Any ideas on what could have happened and/or how to proceed with repairs?

*Side Note: I did not hit the car in front of me. Just a two vehicle accident, in which I was rear-ended.

step1. They have Insurance? Yes? go to step2.step2. Get them to pay for repair.step3. ...step4. profit.

^ This. Get it towed to a shop, make the other driver's insurance arrange for a rental car, and have them call you when it's fixed. If it was leaking coolant you should have let them arrange for a tow at the scene anyway rather than overheating it and topping it off with what I presume was tap water to make it home.[Edited on February 10, 2015 at 2:04 PM. ^^ Yep.As for your odd issue...Get rear ended --> Exhaust pipe gets hit --> Front of exhaust (header area?) gets bent/knocked out of place --> radiator or coolant hose gets punctured...?Seems incredibly unlikely... but then again, so does overheating after a rear end collision.

Maybe it's an MR2? 911? VW Beetle? Vanagon?

Pinched off exhaust?

Got the overheating taken care of, but naturally there is a new problem. I basically said to hell with how the body and bumper look cosmetically (2000 model, just going to drive it until it gives out), but now have noticed the trunk is leaking water (trunk still latches and stays shut). Anyone have insight on whether this can be fixed without repairing the body? I have yet to pinpoint the leak, but hoping it can simply be resealed.[Edited on March 3, 2015 at 9:28 AM. it's pretty easy to fix, you just drop it off somewhere while the other drivers insurance company pays to fix it
3/3/2015 9:27:55 AM
I cashed the insurance payment already. Trying to avoid having to use it, if I don't have too. Like I said, I could care less about how the car looks cosmetically as long as it gets from point a to point b.

This has to be a troll. You got hit, and are not fixing it? She must of been hot as fuck.
3/3/2015 9:29:53 AM
yeah, obvious troll thread
3/3/2015 9:35:10 AM
^^asinine^more asinine for agreeingThe car is 15 years old, just need to drive it until it gives out. Again, don't care about how it looks cosmetically.

Because he pocketed the insurance money instead of fixing his bumper? This isn't rocket science.[Edited on March 3, 2015 at 9:42 AM. Reason : ^^,^^^]

If he did that they he wouldn't be crying about it leaking....
3/3/2015 9:52:12 AM
he accepted a payout without even figuring out what was damaged first? or after presumably finding more damage (overheating), he just rolled with it and said okay? if this isn't trolling then OP has left money on the table.as a serious reply then if it's not trolling, no one here can even begin to guess why it's leaking because you haven't even said what model it is[Edited on March 3, 2015 at 9:54 AM. Back to my original statement, she was hot as fuck. You got hit, didn't got get a estimate, just took a payment? And now you are driving a totaled car that overheats and leaks? I'm confused.#Trollolol

^^Model is a 2000 Honda Civic. Just noticed the leak with all the snow/rain in the past week. Going to crawl through the back seats in to the trunk to try to pinpoint where the leak is coming from (moisture is only in the trunk). Trunk still latches shut, but it isn't completely flush with the rest of the left rear, so I would immediately assume is a seal or spacing problem. I will try to snap a pic at lunch.

Jesus the strawmen are getting deep in here]
3/3/2015 11:19:51 AM
^^ so are you trying to get the trunk to seat flush again so it doesn't leak, or do you just want to make it stop leaking? do you need trunk access?
3/3/2015 11:34:24 AM
Pictures would really help.
3/3/2015 11:47:31 AM
I really just want to make it stop leaking if possible. Overheating was taken care of already and the car drives great. The leak is the only problem now. I suck at TWWing so for some reason I can't get the pics to upload, so hopefully the link to my folder works.photo_folder.aspx?user=38792&filter=[Edited on March 3, 2015 at 12:35 PM.
