Ratatat has apparently stopped dropping acid and are gonna be on the festival circuit this summer. Hopefully that means a new album is on the horizon

The new American Aquarium is good. I just downloaded it this weekend. Distinctly different from their earlier stuff, but very good.

I don't think I like it as much as burn.flicker.die., but I think that has more to do with me being a sad, depressed loser than anything else.

The Guardian pointed out that a new Kelly Clarkson song sounded like Jimmy Eat World. Skeptical, I listened and they are very right

Looking forward to new Sufjan and new Purity Ring. BTBAM is currently recording as well so that should make it out later this year as well. Looking like a pretty good year though overall. Deafheaven, radiohead, bjork, jeff the brotherhood are just a few others off the top of my head that I am anticipating for this year already.

wow. totally forgot about the new Mew album too. This year could be a monster.

New track is super solid as usual. Great textures and production, good melodies, great drumming. They've got that progressive indie rock on lock down: http://plusminus.mewsite.com/

Their last 3 albums were all AOTY contenders for me but they continue to fly under the radar for some reason.

new Decemberists album out today. I'm an unabashed fanboy so i don't care how the reviews are coming in.

I've never understood the appeal of the Decemberists, so I'll skip that one.

New Belle & Sebastian is fine, but the electro songs like the ones on Third Eye Centre totally take me out of it.

I waited to listen to the S-K record until it was in hand, and it is a killer. I know I'm biased, but it's a really fucking good record. The hooky songs are maybe the catchiest they've ever done.

beck is releasing a new record before summer, apparently. supposed to be more "up and energetic and melodic" than morning phase and has high profile collaborators, such as pharrell williams. maybe he'll market this as the follow-up to midnite vultures

The new Natalie Prass that has garnered a lot of local attention here is terrible. It sounds like somebody doing karaoke.

new purity ring album is just ok on first listen. It's first impression on me is not nearly as interesting or engaging as Shrines.

Still some good songs and I will give it an opportunity to grow on me.

front half of the Will Butler album is way better than the back half

it doesn't really flow that well

but that front half is pretty damn great

picked up an album by Jeff Rosenstock entitled We Cool? and my first listen was pretty favorable. Going to give it a few more spins. definitely a punk album but at times it leans post-hardcore a la bear vs shark and dabbles in indie and power-pop too with hints of weezer maybe.

Also picked up an album by a group called Chumped that is in a similar vein at times, though more of a noisy pop-punk sound in a way. The female vocals are what keep it interesting.

ill just paste my fb status here because im lazy:

"I may or may not have awoke at 4:30 this morning and, unable to fall back asleep, wasted time on my phone only to discover that the new Sufjan Stevens album had leaked, immediately powered up my laptop to download it (despite already pre-ordering it) and subsequently laid back in bed to listen to it front to back. I may be tired, but I'm not disappointed."

really solid record. on repeat all day so far.

I've heard great things about that. On the surface that is not always my style but I'm willing to give it a shot for sure.

I picked up the latest Swervedriver record this week on a whim. 17 years after their previous album this one fits in with their catalog perfectly but still remains interesting despite the strong roots back to the 90s. They were always a pretty underrated band so it's cool to see them put another record out, especially since it is seriously enjoyable. Additionally, I just found out they are playing Durham on Tuesday so I'm going to swing by and check them out.
