So I wake up to go into work this morning, go outside to crank my truck, turn the key forward and all I hear is multiple clicks in a row. Now I've had a bad battery before, and when I turned the key, it clicked once and did nothing. This time, it just continuously clicks if I hold the key forward. The Alternator was replaced ~6 years ago. Im not real sure how old the battery is. What sucks is that my wife went out of town with her fam last night so I have no way of getting into work and I don't have the right tools here to test my battery to see if that is indeed the problem. Anyone with more knowledge than I ever seen/heard of this type of issue? 99 Ford Ranger 3.0L 4x4

Has it been clicking randomly lately when you try to start it? Starters don't tend to crap out all at once.Where are you located, any where near pnc area? I'll come give you a jump, if you have cables [Edited on November 28, 2014 at 6:56 AM. Reason : .]

Had this happen to my truck, starter decided to take a shit when I stopped for some food before work. Came out of the restaurant and it wouldn't start, just clicked. Luckily there was an advanced auto right next door so the next morning I pulled the starter, took it to get tested and it was dead, got a new one delivered in 20 minutes, bolted it up and away I went.If its easily accessible I would pull the starter and get it tested.

Try giving the starter a few love taps.

Yeah, I drove it home from work on Tuesday night. This morning was the first time i tried to crank it since then. It hasn't been clicking randomly at all. Just all of a sudden this morning. I'm not in Raleigh, I'm actually in Charlotte and was supposed to be at work this morning...so much for that. Really don't think its the battery as I've had a dead battery before and it doesn't do that clicking noise constantly.

Solenoids click differently depending on how dead the battery is. Just jump start the damn thing. Don't rush the jump start, leave the cables on with a running engine for a few minutes before you attempt to crank yours. Then drive somewhere that sells batteries and ask them to finish charging/test it.

Sounds like eitherA.) dead battery that wont crank when its coldb.) loose cables leading from the batteryc.) starter has shut the bed on you

^Thanks for your help! It is greatly appreciated. I'm sure making that comment made you feel like such a big man. I'm sure you're just a joy to be around. I knew I could jump start it, i had just never had what happened, happen. Wasn't sure if the noises I was hearing was normal for a starter going bad or what, so I figured I would come and post so that people that know what they're talking about with cars could give me an opinion. But I guess since I ask for opinions before jumping on something that I don't know 100% about, I am someone that doesn't know how to do anything and just shit myself constantly.
