it has been sitting outside but not in the rain, i let it warm up some once it was started but soon as you take it out of choke it quits running

Ethanol claims another one. Replace the carburetor.

- bad fuel- partially clogged fuel line (my guess, running on choke causes more vacuum, sucking harder on the fuel line)- clogged/gummed up carb - needs a cleaning.pick one or all, clean, new fuel, repeat[Edited on November 18, 2014 at 5:43 PM. Reason : or NRR it ^]

Not worth the effort of cleaning. These carbs are cheap.

Prevention measures:Quit putting fuel with ethanol in your small enginesUse a fuel stabilizer (but this only buys you time, doesn't eliminate the problem)When you plan to put the equipment up for longer than a couple weeks, dump the fuel tank, crank it up, and gag the throttle wide open until it shuts off.

Is this varnishing?
11/18/2014 6:02:34 PM
No, it is phase separation of gasoline/ethanol blends
11/18/2014 6:03:48 PM
man I was running that canned gas from Lowes in it that's ethanol free
11/18/2014 6:08:19 PM
http://saturdaymechanic.com/ethanol-issues-varnish-vs-gum-and-using-the-right-additive/Decent explanation of the difference. Pure gasoline will varnish, but is easily combated with a fuel system cleaner. Ethanol gums up everything. These little 2-stroke carbs aren't worth cleaning.

I would still suggest dumping the tank and running it dry. It's a clogged carb. Seen it too many times.I buy what is advertised as e-free for my boat and small engines, but I still treat it like it is E10.

Also, I'm anal about my boat and small engine fuel and still had to replace the carb in my weedeater this summer. The difference is I got over 4 yrs of service from it whereas ethanol fuel would result in a new carb every mowing season.

yeah i have been making my own gas and my brother in law told me to get that pre canned gas because of that ethanol thingi was getting refurbished stuff from vminnovations but it never lasts more than a year, the last home lite leaf blower last exactly one season, this one is a husqvarna and it still starts right up but wont run so i bet its the same thing you are saying its clogged

Weird, I got like 6 years out of my leaf blower before I did a rebuild. I got a similar amount on a pushmower. I'm currently at about 4 years on a second pushmower. I don't do anything special other than put stabil in them over the winter if I don't bother to drain the tanks.

11/18/2014 7:32:18 PM
