Might as well get this started for the cool down at the end of next week. Looks like we might be in for a long winter with a weak El Nino & lots of snow coverage in the Arctic.

Just hoping any and all snow falls in the evening-morning time frame. Fuck another gridlock this year!
11/7/2014 2:43:44 PM
^Lucked out enough to be close to home so I just parked in a lot and walked...all things considered I actually kind of enjoyed it.

Well, a good portion of it has been brought on by the tropical cyclones in the East Pacific lifting off to the north (for example, the current low pressure system bombing out in the Bering Sea), which I guess could be an argument FOR global warming---but let's try to stay on topic.

Meh, it's snowed twice already here in Boone. Wake me up in May.
11/7/2014 9:34:02 PM
^^ LOL at the hype. It is ridiculous at this point.

As far as that map they are using the word Bombogenesis in reference to the Alaskan storm (defined as when a non tropical low deepens by 24 mb or more within 24 hours). That is a stretch to say the least to use it with that graphic. I get that the storm will shape the pattern to allow the arctic air to push south but the public isn't going to grasp most or any of that.
11/9/2014 10:15:39 AM
Are we going to get freezing rain next weekend? I see that in quite a few forecasts, but seems a bit early.
11/9/2014 12:40:29 PM
Been waiting all summer for the best season of the year! Time to hit the slopes!
11/9/2014 1:49:16 PM
It got down below 70 here in Hawaii yesterday. Ridiculous.
11/9/2014 4:56:20 PM
so whats this "all hell breaking lose" stuff I keep hearing about?
11/9/2014 5:14:06 PM
I'm excited to find out "bombogenesis" is a real word.
11/9/2014 6:06:52 PM
Yep, it's winter
11/19/2014 8:33:30 AM
nah, still fall
11/19/2014 8:35:29 AM
Feels like winter to me.http://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/11/18/all-50-states-have-below-freezing-temperatures/

My calendar still says Nov 19[Edited on November 19, 2014 at 8:57 AM. Reason : winter starts Dec 21]
11/19/2014 8:56:50 AM
Suppose to hit 70 next week, definitely not winter yet.
11/19/2014 9:08:07 AM
Hoping this weather is indicative of a snow-filled winter.
11/19/2014 10:17:34 AM
Some of the snow totals and pictures coming out of the buffalo area are mind blowing. After one storm like that I would be moving. Being literally snowed in is no joke.
11/19/2014 1:18:43 PM
I'd be skiing down the street.
11/19/2014 2:20:28 PM
^^My wife looked at me tonight and said "are you seriously still going to make me move up there?" lol
11/19/2014 9:42:59 PM
As much as I appreciate weather being a meteorologist, there is no way you would catch me up there during the winter
11/20/2014 8:37:54 AM
I recall a discussion in Dr. Lackman's class that the intense snow in Wake County back in 2000 may have had a small lake effect component based on the radar. There is no way I would live on the eastern side of a great lake...
11/21/2014 3:14:48 PM
that started on my birthday epic birthday present from god.
11/21/2014 7:36:06 PM
lol
11/24/2014 1:15:00 PM
When are we going to get some snow??
12/12/2014 2:23:32 PM
The week of 21 Dec is starting to show maybe signs of something12Z Sat EURO Model
12/13/2014 10:04:08 PM
Cold Rain.
12/14/2014 12:06:19 AM
Yup. Looks like cold rain.
12/14/2014 10:24:20 AM
That's the ever-familiar december in NC weather for me. Sounds like a totally legit Christmas. Hopefully the rain doesn't screw up the luminaries on Christmas eve.
12/14/2014 11:30:03 AM
I am in north Central VA so I am liking this possible setup
12/14/2014 2:23:35 PM
12/16/2014 1:01:22 PM
heck yeah i'll be in the Shenandoah Valley
12/16/2014 1:33:53 PM
Dang. Sounds like I'm gonna see rain in Va now
12/18/2014 8:36:16 AM
Eh, you might see a little snow/sleet, but likely nothing significantly measureable (depends on where you are going)---latest model runs aren't showing a whole lot of moisture available for that area this weekend despite CAD setting up. Monday may be a bit more favorable there with more moisture available, IF the combination of the surface low to the north & strengthening low off the coast can pull enough cold air down.As for us in NC, the low pressure system on that shows up in the Northern Plains on Monday really blows up (between 960-970mb) over the Great Lakes region as it moves eastward Tuesday, and it could possibly generate some severe weather in eastern NC late Tuesday into early Christmas Eve morning along a fast moving frontal boundary. After that, we'll likely see some pretty good gusty NW to W winds later that morning through Christmas behind the front---with the only likely frozen p-type occuring in the higher elevations/western NC. Good thing for winter weather lovers is that this appears to usher in a quite dynamic pattern after that, with several shots of cold air coming down from Canada through New Years.
12/18/2014 9:37:47 AM
I'll be traveling up 77 through SW VA and WV on Saturday. Glad to hear that it isn't going to be that bad, but I do hope I see a little snow along the way.
12/18/2014 7:15:42 PM
Maybe you will where you are going, or on the way back? That Great Lakes low isn't looking as strong as it was yesterday (though we still may see some storms in eastern NC early Wed morning), so Christmas Day is probably going to be fairly normal for this time of year for NC (around 50F for high, low 30s for lows). After that, conditions stay fairly mild until later Saturday when another front passes through---perhaps triggering the pattern change I mentioned before.

1/5/2015 11:55:46 AM
Could be some freezing rain late Sunday night into Monday morning, but it's a bit early to put any confidence into it.Who wants to chase high pressure Thursday???
1/5/2015 3:00:24 PM
Yep. Its weather outsideI'm Krallum and I approved this message.
1/5/2015 6:31:15 PM
The idea of record-setting high pressure is pretty neat.
1/5/2015 7:56:42 PM
I have a barometer - you know, with the big reservoir and a pitcher/neck out of the side? It looked like it was about to overflow today...is it a record setting high? How bout that.
1/5/2015 10:00:53 PM
Am I crazy or does it look like there is a small chance we could get something wet and frozen next week? ... very small chance but...
1/6/2015 8:04:32 AM
Nice to see DC pull a Raleigh this morning
