I am building a cold weather kit because I'm tired of being cold in the winter. I got a 1st layer....from Under Arms. I also found some icelandic socks on amazon that seem pretty dope. Then I got a second layer ninja suit made out of merino wool from llbean...now I need a 3rd layer. Warm pants. Do they make down PANTS? I guess the purpose is to keep wind out and rain- so says the hubs. Any suggestions? What do you wear to stay warm? I'd like to stay away from being a walking north face logo.... And, in the spirit of teedub, how did I eff up already? Thanks in advance, my omniscient friends.

Do you live outside or something?

I keep an arctic quilt Carhartt jumpsuit for when I have to work outside. It's bulky and feels like I'm working out of a sleeping bag, but it's kept me warm even on days when it was -5º with a 30mph wind. I have days where I have to work outside all day in the winter, but my work doesn't require me to do much more than be able to walk up hills slowly. I seriously doubt I could do something like snow ski in clothing that bulky.

Were any of these items received through some sort of secret Santa program? Perhaps where you got something but did not reciprocate?

I own some lined hiking pants from REI, they're awesome.

that's what I wear if standard jeans won't cut the mustard... And some wigwam wool socks. They are the bestest. Warm, but for some reason, I don't notice foot sweat in active situations.

Is this the user that did not reciprocate on Secret Santa lastb year?

One of them, yes.

I like under armour cold gear, then regular old sweat pants, then bibs like posted above. On top I wear the cold gear, a t-shirt, a good hoodie, then the bibs, and a heavy carhartt coat on top. I do a lot of fishing and working in the cold and this keeps me warm, lets me move, and sets me up to remove layers as it warms up during the day. Quality socks are also a must. Wool, synthetic, or a blend, but never cotton.[Edited on October 26, 2014 at 8:46 PM. Reason : as]

I'm skinny so when it's really cold I wear long johns, then flannel lined jeans/pants, then insulated overalls/coveralls.I don't like being cold.

I have a pair of lululemon "dog walker" pants - it's a pair of leggings attached to a pair of track pants - and they're the warmest and most comfortable pants ever. Of all time. They're one of the few items I've paid full price for and have not regretted it once. I don't think they're being made again this season, but these are similar: http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/athletic-pants/Studio-Pant-II-Liner-Tall?cc=8353&skuId=3513978&catId=athletic-pants
