How is it that my wife's account converted to this "Google Inbox" type more than a year ago on its own? She has had 3 inboxes for more than a year: Primary, Social, Promotions. I always wondered why my account did not undergo the same change, especially considering I started using gmail years before she did.Was that for beta testing? If so, they never asked her for any feedback!BTW, on their site it says "Send an email to inbox@google.com to request your invitation", so why are people asking here for invitations?[Edited on October 26, 2014 at 8:31 PM. 10/26/2014 8:30:35 PM
that's not Inbox
10/26/2014 8:32:27 PM
oh, what was that then? i never got the primary, social, and promotions inboxes automatically.
10/26/2014 8:53:17 PM
you just never activated them. click on the gear for settings, then choose Configure Inbox
10/26/2014 9:08:06 PM
thanks, got it
10/26/2014 10:46:49 PM
You're not completely far off in your perception that users are unknowingly "signed up" for new betas though. I think I got that with Google Maps.
10/26/2014 10:49:43 PM
I have the beta version of Google Maps. I have the WinRar Free Trial too!
10/27/2014 12:44:41 AM
i actually kind of like Inbox. didn't think i would
10/27/2014 8:12:11 AM
Works great for my little-used gmail address... I think it'd be awesome in practice. Why is it so hard for them to make it work with Apps accounts? Come on, Google! Get with the program already!
10/27/2014 10:53:59 AM
they hold out on everything for apps accountswhich is crap because some people pay for apps accounts
10/28/2014 12:03:48 AM
got my invite to this earlier in the week. Haven't really had the time to test it. To properly gauge how I like it, I'd really need to completely turn off my regular gmail notifications.
10/30/2014 3:09:40 PM
I hate changes in things I use all the time for work. My Gmail inbox falls in this category.
10/30/2014 4:02:24 PM
anyone have an extra invite? hawleyncsu@gmail.com if you do. Thanks!

Trying it out on Android and Gmail. Not that impressed. I guess because I already keep my Gmail quite organized. This might be more useful for my work email but I don't get that many emails via Gmail a day and inbox doesn't look much different than my Gmail inbox. There's a line item for each email. The only difference is they're calling out the obvious (update, package, etc). I can already determine these things on my own by scanning through new emails.
11/2/2014 12:44:53 PM
I too get very few personal emails compared to my work emails (well I auto-forward most of my work emails but still, they all just get dumped into a Work label in my gmail) but I actually find it to be pretty nice. yes, it doesn't look much different than my Gmail inbox but that's OK because it comes with some extra functionality like opening attachments straight from the inbox and being able to 'snooze' emails instead of just ignore them or leave them unread is actually kind of nice. Seeing the reminders in there isn't bad either, but I already see those in Google Now so it's probably not really needed.Still getting used to but there are some definite things I like or think I could learn to make use of. It would require me to change how I typically handle email to fully utilize it though so I'm not sure whether I'll end up wanting to use it long term or not yet.

I've used this for almost a week now and honestly like it a good bit better than stock gmail. I plan to continue to use it as my main mail app.
11/9/2014 5:45:25 PM
Yeah I just don't like it. It seems like a waste of space. Via the normal Gmail I can see at least 6 emails (wish you could have it show you more by decreasing the # of preview lines it shows). With inbox with all the added information sometimes I only see 2-3. That's a disadvantage. I mean I know what my Delta boarding pass is. It says it right in the subject. I don't need a big picture of the airport in my inbox view. Same thing with a restaurant reservation. I know I made the reservation and the subject tells me that. I don't need all this added crap with a big picture that takes up a third of my screen of the name of the restaurant. Trying to use Inbox has caused me to scroll more, search more, and overall be annoyed why they're trying to over complicate email. I guess I already had a good system going.

I'm pretty strict with my rules and my subfolders (lots of folders, especially for work) and they all transferred over seamlessly and I actually kind of like the bundles. One of the reasons that I keep so many folders is that I like having a 'zero' inbox if possible and keep it clean and as I've used this it actually helps with that a ton with the way you can 'done', 'snooze', or pin stuff. I've used the snooze function a lot this week with work emails I received in another meeting. Very handy.Additionally, I'm 50/50 on the attachments. I do wish they had a toggle to 'collapse' or expand the attachment view. There are times I love it and in some cases, the stuff they place there is not important and is annoying. However, for my work emails I love it. From my main inbox or done inbox, I can horizontal scroll through attachments in my most recent emails without even opening an email, straight from the work bundle. That is actually a big time saver at times. A good portion of work emails I receive, all I really care about is the attachment and I don't have to open an email, or even navigate to that folder.Really, if they added a toggle for expand/collapse I couldn't think of much else besides the real estate issue that I don't like about it.

I think it makes a lot more sense for work related email. With my personal email I pretty know what I'm getting when I'm getting it and it's fairy easy to manage. Unfortunately I use Outlook for work and that won't be changing anytime soon. I see the value though I just wish I could take more advantage of it.
11/9/2014 10:06:20 PM
that makes sense. Right now, I avoid having an official company phone because of the security program they also require. I doubt they really enforce remote wipe, being able to see your screen, etc. very often but I don't like the idea of that on my personal phone. So, instead I forward all of my work email to my gmail and manage a lot from there. Not the best solution but I'd be out of the loop at work so much otherwise. On the personal side I agree that I don't receive enough important attachments for the new attachment handling to be worth it - Google Now already does a good job taking care of shipping tracking, upcoming tickets and reservations etc.
11/10/2014 8:26:27 AM
Remote wipe isn't a big deal. If I lose my phone then it makes sense to remote wipe it. Everything else is backed up on my Gmail account. I just get a cell phone subsidy and get to use my personal phone for work. Kinda makes sense if you have client data on your phone and you lose it...

Got my invite today. Will report back my findings.
11/10/2014 3:39:31 PM
So far is been a slight awkward pain in the ass to read my emails. But I'm getting it. This will little annoyance will probably not effect my overall opinion on Inbox.

11/12/2014 8:38:57 AM
i got into Google Inbox. It sucks. Uninstalled it from my phone the same day.
11/20/2014 10:30:44 PM
Can you guys tell me more about this?
11/21/2014 12:37:16 AM
i've tried to use it and give it a fair shake...but i find it really annoying and less than intuitivei'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish...email should be simple, right?
11/21/2014 8:30:55 AM
I'm with ^... I don't get the point. I like my emails in chronological order; once I've read them and no longer immediately need them, they get deleted or archived to a label.
11/21/2014 9:04:06 AM
I've decided that this product isn't anything helpful for me at all. I guess I sorta see the point of it but it hurts more than it can help. I've almost missed some very important emails trying to give Inbox a fair chance, but I just hope that it dies off as fast as it came into existence. Uninstalled.
11/21/2014 11:41:54 AM
I got 5 invitations. If you want one PM me your email addy.
