If there is a $2.50 delivery fee, do you assume this goes to the driver?Do you tip him normally or deduct this amount?Ordered 2 pizzas and order totaled $25 before delivery fee was added.
10/19/2014 12:08:11 PM
3 dolla is what i give everytime except in very inclement weather then I give 4 or 5 dolla.
10/19/2014 12:10:40 PM
When I delivered at Dominos, there was a fee of 2 bucks, 1 goes to the store and the other to the driver. Some people think the dollar to the store covers some kind of insurance for its drivers, but they're wrong.Driver Wages:Minimum Wage + 1 dollar per delivery + tips.
10/19/2014 12:11:17 PM
do drivers have to pay for their own gas?if so, gas is the cheapest it's been since 2010, so you're allowed to tip less
10/19/2014 12:18:22 PM
I usually take this amount out of what I was already going to tip.I understand that the delivery drivers are the ones getting shafted here. At the same time, I don't think that situation that the restaurant set up should be my problem.
10/19/2014 12:21:39 PM
Pizza delivery drivers should unionize
10/19/2014 12:24:54 PM
So am I giving them too much?
10/19/2014 12:26:29 PM
I can't remember the last time I had pizza delivered. When we get pizza we just pick it up ourselves so we don't end up having to pay a delivery fee plus a tip.
10/19/2014 12:29:03 PM
10/19/2014 12:29:05 PM
Drivers pay own gas and insurance.
10/19/2014 1:03:32 PM
so you can tip $0.50 less since gas is cheaper now
10/19/2014 1:10:45 PM
I give $5 for a normal delivery (1-2 pies, a couple sides). If the weather is nasty, I'll adjust upward.
10/19/2014 2:54:41 PM
lol @ the people who quite obviously did not read the OP
10/19/2014 3:11:41 PM
Oh great, another tipping thread
10/19/2014 3:55:10 PM
now that they have delivery fees, i count that as the tip.
10/19/2014 3:57:41 PM
Fee doesn't go to the driver. If you don't tip $3+ you're an asshole.
10/19/2014 3:58:18 PM
TFB for the driver. If you charge me for a service in addition to the normal cost of the food don't expect me to tip too.I'm also not tipping at Moe's, Starbucks, or when I go pick up the damned pizza myself.
10/19/2014 4:19:20 PM
I offer them a slice of pizza
10/19/2014 4:22:05 PM
I feel bad for drivers, so I usu tip 4-5 bux I adjust downward if they're wearing cargo shorts
10/19/2014 4:24:34 PM
^^^ y u so mad tho?
10/19/2014 4:29:30 PM
Fuck you, ain't nobody mad here!
10/19/2014 4:35:04 PM
10/19/2014 5:54:13 PM
$3 is the minimum tip for pizza delivery
10/19/2014 6:12:25 PM
10%
10/19/2014 6:13:41 PM
I feel like the "Delivery fee' is just a fucking jack, which pizza companies have figured out they can get away withand which probably takes money out of the drivers' pockets
10/19/2014 6:25:47 PM
^ That's exactly what it is.
10/19/2014 6:39:57 PM
haven't gotten delivery in a year or more. but when i used to live close enough to town to get delivery, i'd usually usually tip about $2-3 regardless of delivery fee.
10/19/2014 6:57:34 PM
You're truly a man of the people, dmspack
10/19/2014 7:07:39 PM
That delivery fee is a dick move

So it's like the "convenience fee" that ticketmaster used to charge (probably still charge it, haven't purchased a ticket from them in years) and we should just build that into the base cost as opposed to thinking of it as a fee for delivery even though they call it a delivery charge?
10/19/2014 8:16:30 PM
^yeah that stuff is bullshit. don't remember what site i was on, but it was one of those ticket sites. and the tickets were just electronic tickets that get emailed to you. and there was still an "electronic delivery fee"
10/19/2014 8:21:14 PM
I order from the same place each time so I tip whatever it takes to keep the spit off my pizza.
10/19/2014 8:29:47 PM
^^^ yup that's how it works.
10/19/2014 8:45:07 PM
Nah, I think I'll just continue not tipping or tipping very little if I'm also being charged for delivery.
10/19/2014 8:46:44 PM
I give them just the tip
10/19/2014 8:54:17 PM
^ 8.2/10

?topic=633152When I delivered pizzas for Pizza Hut in the summer of 2000, I received a small portion (~¢20) of the delivery charge ($2) that was added into my paycheck. I can't speak to current practices.Bottom line, the price of a gallon of gas (with $2 as a floor) is a good benchmark for tipping a delivery guy.[Edited on October 20, 2014 at 12:05 AM. 10/20/2014 12:04:36 AM
I don't think you have to worry about that floor any more
10/20/2014 12:19:25 AM
last time i had a pizza delivered, i changed my mind before he got there, and I just didnt answer the doorbut hopefully he got a pizza to take home that night
10/20/2014 3:04:13 AM
I ordered a pizza the night before last. My subtotal was $10.40. I tipped the guy $2.00 (or maybe it was $2.50), and it was on the credit card at that. Come at me.
10/20/2014 7:54:06 AM
when i taught at a middle school in durham the kids thought it was funny to call pizza hut and order 20 pizzas and give the name of teachers. they did this multiple times over several weeks, and pizza hut just kept delivering them and getting stiffed. I was called to the office several times to "pick up my pizzas" and the delivery guy was thoroughly confused/pissed when i told him i didn't order them and wouldn't pay for them. (and the administration was so incompetent that there were absolutely no consequences for the kids who did this even though we knew exactly who they were)
10/20/2014 8:43:59 AM
Did you at least tip them ?
10/20/2014 8:46:25 AM
I once had a job at a hotel where one of my duties was delivering room service. These deliveries had a tip included in the bill, but everyone tipped me again on top of that. In the spirit of paying it forward I usually tip drivers the usual 20% or so regardless of a delivery fee.
10/20/2014 8:55:34 AM
^^nah because they took the pizzas with them.
10/20/2014 9:37:37 AM
Back to the spirit of this thread...If a restaurant instituted a delivery fee that made customers routinely tip me less or not at all as a delivery driver, I would probably find another job if I could. I think that if enough delivery drivers quit, that delivery fee would disappear pretty quick. Again, I understand that tipping less or not at all hurts the delivery guy over something they have no control over. I also just don't think it is my job to make up the wages that a restaurant has taken away from the employee. I have trouble seeing this any way other than paying twice for a delivery service.
10/20/2014 9:44:29 AM
10% of the total (fee included)unless shit weatherand I round up to the next dollar usually and pay with cash if I canthat said I rarely get delivery. I prefer to just go pick it up so I can make sure all my shit is right
10/20/2014 11:30:16 AM
I tip 20%.Why should you tip less to someone who is using their car and gas to bring your food than at a restaurant where they just walk in the kitchen to get it?
