Not sure if it is his fault or Brissett's, but any time BC blitzed one man we had no chance.

My name is Canada, I like to call screen passes as a regular look (even though a screen is meant to work based on surprising the defense and misdirection) and I especially love calling the screen on every 3rd and long I can.

Oh wait, at Louisville I had us on the 1 yard line and I decide to have Jacoby roll out for a pass and take a sack instead of handing it off to Thorton or Samuels for a trap or a straight up the middle. This is when it was Thorton himself who got us to the 1 yard line and our run has been successful all game, we instead do this series of calls:

1st Down: Pass
2nd Down: Pass
3rd Down: Pass (for sack)
4th Down: FG

I wish we would fucking fire Canada, but to fire we have to hire also..

Good point. I know he planned on the sack.

I wasn't saying he planned a sack, what I am saying is a sack is the ONE thing we could not let happen in that series and look what happened..

Jacoby should have never been in a situation where a sack was even possible, that is my point. 3 pass plays on the 1 yard line? Seems like solid play calling to me

I know when a qb has plenty of time to throw the ball away but takes a really dumb sack I always blame it on the coach and the play call.

It was a great play call, Louisville had everyone stacked inside and we could have easily been stuffed for a big loss trying to run up the gut. That's a play that is either a touchdown or you throw it away.

Why is everyone focusing on the sack? That was on 3rd down, we threw 2 passes before that on the 1 yard line..

Ah, I thought it was 3rd down, with the complete shit playing it all sort of runs together.

I was looking for a play by play of the game, but couldn't find one.

In fact, after Shad got us to the 2, we tried to run Dayes and he got stuffed for a loss of 10 but a facemask penalty pushed us to a first down and half the distance. Then the roll out for a sack and two incomplete passes.

Yea I remember the facemask call, but it doesn't change the fact calling 3 passes was far from good play calling when our run got us all the way there.

It's not like I am saying fire Canada based on a single series of plays, I just pointed one out.

Our run didn't get us all the way there, that drive was actually perfectly 50/50 up until that point with 20 yards on the ground and 20 in the air. I have no problem with the play calling ont he offensive side of the ball. Defense, on the other hand...

I think the whole screen pass topic is way more pertinent to the topic than that single screw up on the 1yd line.

We ran more screen passes vs Cuse because they blitz constantly, we really haven't been running them to death all season by any means. Based on how well you remembered the Louisville sequence you were bitching about I kinda have to question what else you really remember.

It seems like our offense gets in a nice groove with the hurry up stuff between the 20s and then can't maintain that momentum in the red zone. I would like to lodge a formal complaint about that.

State certainly struggled to find touchdowns in the red zone against Cuse, but otherwise I think our redzone to TD ratio is pretty good but I don't remember it off hand.

Offensive assistant coach (RB, QB, or OC) since 1993, if you include his time as a student coach at IU. In that time, he has only coached to a total of 4 bowl games (again including time as a student coach), with a record of 1-3, his first bowl win coming last year.

With a record like that I'm sure glad we gave this guy a contract extension so Tennessee didn't steal him away.

No longer credible.

This somehow surprises me...in the fact that I thought Hux was the obvious first move.

I figured Canada would eventually get a head coaching gig or get fired...but not this soon.

Interesting. Wonder if they move the RB coach into the OC spot or WR coach. A lot may depend on McClendon's actual QB style of play.

So...CHIP KELLY?!?

Canada was not suited for our offense because he was a pass first OC. Matt Dayes did well this season because of Drinkwitz's schemes. I am happy with Eliah

did we really pass that much more last year?

Jacoby had 395 attempts last year. Finley had 372 this year. we actually had more passing yards this year and our pass offense was statistically better this year. rush offense was statistically better last year.

and at Pitt this year, their pass game was ok...but their ground game was their bread and butter.

LOL dayes was MUCH better last year.

6.5yds per carry in 2015 12TDs in 8 games

4.7 yards per carry with 10 tds in 2016 in 12 games

so you can take it as a dig at Bieleman, a dig at Doeren, or just a general statement about how he enjoyed working with this Pitt staff.

ehh...i mean, dayes did the majority of that vs Troy, EKU, USA, ODU, and Wake. in those 5 games he was averaging 7 ypc against those terrible teams. in his other 2.5 games vs VT, UL, and Clemson (before getting injured) he was averaging 3.5 ypc.

just for comparisons sake he averaged 5.7 ypc in 2016 vs ODU, W&M, ECU, ND Wake (first 5 games of season and 5 pretty terrible defenses). the rest of the season he averaged 3.9 ypc.

so really, matt dayes was a beast this year and last against weaker competition. and was less effective against stronger competition. the touchdown totals are probably a combination of flukes, play calling, and our bad red zone offense this season...not matt dayes suddenly being bad.

Just another case of NC State shit.

Great coaches leave here all of the time ( or are pushed out) and go on to show that they weren't indeed the problem.

Until NC State opens their checkbook to keep good assistants around, we will always be a stepping stone.
