Can anyone provide advice with regard to finding a licensed general contractor?I'm going to attempt to sell my condo in the near future, and I have a variety of different maintenance issues that need to be addressed:new carpet, paint/water damage repair, sink replacement/repair, fireplace replacement/repair, sliding door repair, etc. Thanks in advance.

You need a handy man to do that stuff. Not a general contractor.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll look into finding a qualified handy man instead.

i think what ^^ was trying to say is that amount of work may be too small for some General Contractors to competitively price and perform against smaller handy-man type services. I'm sure someone in here can recommend a qualified contractor, but you can also look into something like Angie's List as well.

Hire a Real Estate Inspector. Most of them perform the inspection and will provide a quote to fix the issues.

I used this dude for siding replacement on the front & back of my house last year. He's more of a one man show, ie he's not Enormous Home Exteriors Inc or some big siding/roofing/windows company. But they did good work and were pretty cheap compared to the other quotes I got. He said it would take them a week, and that's how long they were here. Only complaint is their cleanup was less than stellar, I am still finding old siding nails in my back yard. He had insurance on himself and his guys, although with that stuff you never really know how protected you are if it comes down to it. He will want a partial payment for materials after they were delivered. Some guys will try to get a deposit up front...to me this is a bad idea.Scott Turner (919) 604-1943turner_scott@bellsouth.netIf you're getting a bunch of siding done, plan up front to replace all the window casings and any door casings too with some type of no-rot (either fiber cement or pvc). It will cost a few hundred extra but it's worth it when you see the old crap they pull off your house...at least it was in my case. Good luck.
