in an ice bucket challenge prankhttp://www.cnn.com/2014/09/09/us/horrific-ice-bucket-challenge/index.html?hpt=hp_t2I hope they charge these assholes to the fullest extent of the law. This is just shameful.

stategrad100's thoughts upon reading this article:1- Wow, these people have nothing better to do than to harass a disabled kid.2- My heart goes out to the kid who was suffering and thought he would be included in a form of camaraderie.3- Is it worth it to prosecute all kids involved so that they have a criminal record for the rest of their lives?4- Yes

I just ask the question "What kind of person does it take to do this" and the answer I come back with is "one that isn't worth redeeming."

I know I did some stuff that I regret when I was kid, and I had some friends who did even worse stuff. Kids can be assholes, especially if their parents are jerks. Yeah, it's shameful and sad, and they should be punished. But I wouldn't say that a 15-year old that participated in this "isn't worth redeeming".At soccer camp one year there was this kid who thought he was the coolest, so several of us decided to pee in a bunch of cups and throw it under his dorm-room door in the middle of the night so when he got up he'd be walking in piss. I don't really regret that, that dude was a douche.

To me that is the difference here. It is one thing to prank someone who can potentially get you back. To do this to a disabled kid - that is the problem for me.

I may or may not have been a participant in sneaking laxatives into people's water bottles while on school field trips, especially those that were physically demanding and/or had limited access to toilets.
9/9/2014 3:40:11 PM
Did you do that to special ed kids?I think you have to have a very specific part of your soul missing to be able to treat people like this. This wasn't just a run-of-the-mill prank and you can't tell me those kids truly thought it innocent
9/9/2014 3:52:24 PM
^^^that's true. I always felt really bad when my friend's picked on the really weird/socially akward/disabled kids.... but i still have a hard time saying a 15 year old kid is nonredeemable.[Edited on September 9, 2014 at 3:53 PM. Reason : ]

I can not even find words to describe how angry this makes meThere's a special place in hell for people like that.

Like I said, its one thing to do even this kind of heinous thing to someone that can pay you back in kind. Man if I was that kid's dad, I'd be wanting to take matters into my own hands.queue the "Whoa, we got a badass here" pic

I've been hearing about celebrities offering to contribute toward a reward fund for finding the perps. But doesn't the victim know who they are? Or did some random kids walk up to him and challenge him?

What age should we consider someone "fully formed"?I think about this concept a lot, especially with regards to statutory rape (and other "non consensual" sex crimes)
9/9/2014 9:29:05 PM
The only appropriate punishment is to do the same thing to them on national television. Pry their eyes/mouths open when it's happening
9/9/2014 9:31:29 PM
sounds like that kid had a shitty day

I, too, did some horribly mean things when I was a kid. And I, too, think this goes above and beyond normal youthful hijinx into the realm of actual evil. However, I would be in favor of their identifying the leaders/instigators, and punishing them far more severely than the kids that just went along with it.Also, I know it makes me a bad person, but I laughed really, really hard when I read about this on Facebook. It was one of those laughs that takes nearly a whole minute to get out of your system.I don't know exactly why, except that I'm a bad person. Also, somehow I thought the kid was retarded, not autistic; and that he'd knowingly agreed to having shit and piss dumped on him, having been tricked into thinking those were the rules of the challenge. And again, because I'm a terrible person.]

I'm not sure I am OK with the usage of the term "prank" here.
9/9/2014 10:18:07 PM
This crosses the border between "prank" and "warning signs." A kid who mutilates squirrels in the backyard isn't just a kid being a kid, he's a strong candidate for future serial killer. You send his ass to a shrink. Likewise a kid who dumps shit on an autistic person pretty much has a lock on "future fuckhead," whether we go ahead and give him his criminal record now or wait until the next crime.
9/10/2014 3:47:28 AM
You have to have some blackness in your heart to trick an autistic kid into letting you throw a bucket of dookie on him
