Long story short, but said vehicle was flooded in saltwater. Engine is gone and after towing expenses and such its $700 in the hole. Is it worth signing over the title to the shop or trying to part it out? Replacement engine? Thanks.

What kind of shape is the rest of it in?What exactly was the $700 for? How did it happen? How far did it get submerged?

Pics of the damage. How long was it under? How long has it sat with salt water in it?I'd buy a cheap work truck and swap over the whole drivetrain.

Its a beater jeep; has been sitting at the beach for the last 4 or 5 years. Its not mine, but my parents. Its rusty, but was mechanically fine. My brother took it to the off road beach and get it stuck in a "sink hole" which eventually filled with sea water. His story is suspect. The $700 is for the tow (from the off-road beach) and then the tow to the shop (about an hour away) and some diagnostics. From what I understand, saltwater got into the block. Its been sitting at the shop for almost a week. No pics, I'm asking on behalf of my old man. He is thinking just take the loss, because he has no desire to turn it into a project or anything. Just trying to recoup some of the loss.

Would you be interested in swapping roll bars? My wife has a '91 with the old style bar which some prefer to the "family bar" which comes in 92-95 YJs. Reason I want a family bar is the added shoulder belt for the rear seat passenger which would allow my 7yo to be a little safer.Differences in roll bar:[Edited on August 19, 2014 at 9:49 PM. Seriously I don't know... If the body was in decent shape before hand I would buy some kind of cheap solid axle truck and swap the whole driveline in... And an ls motor.... But since it was rusty and was under salt water.. Shits gonna turn to dust in no time I probably wouldn't waste any money on it at all.

Just swamp it in some lake water to rinse the salt off
