Coming September 3!

that render looks terrible. nevertheless, excited to see this car unveiled
8/12/2014 1:49:11 AM
If you were to overlay that render with the sheet above.... Every detail you can see is wrong from over all height vs width scale to tire gap to any hard lines in the body.Worthless
8/12/2014 6:02:44 AM
Well I for one am excited to see the new MX5. The render image looks very BMW-esque to me, however, I do find it attractive. Sounds like Mazda has their priorities right in developing the next generation (Nd?)
8/12/2014 6:20:48 AM
^^the render is from May, and it shows his vision of how the Kodo design language could be applied to the MX-5, at the time he made the render, which is not based on any spy shots or teaser images.
8/12/2014 6:42:23 AM
Mazda's original stated goal was to get the curb weight down to 1000 kg, but I honestly don't see that happening. I'd be extremely happy/impressed if that were the case. Here are a few recent spy shots:The ND will be simultaneously unveiled in Japan, the US and Spain all at exactly the same time. 5:30pm PST so 8:30pm EST.
8/12/2014 9:32:02 AM
ha, that streak makes it look like the rear tire has a tone of positive camber
8/12/2014 10:43:08 AM
It's the pixels, silly.
8/12/2014 11:09:15 AM
cracked windshield
8/12/2014 3:25:13 PM
It's all the MONSTER TORQUES bending spacetime
8/15/2014 12:28:18 AM
the spy shots make it look pretty bloated
8/17/2014 8:40:49 AM
Any minute now... in the mean time, here is render reportedly by Mazda product engineer Seth Elson
9/3/2014 1:00:46 AM
That looks good but a little too bimmer rip offy. Not like I'd ever get the car anyway.
9/3/2014 6:21:13 AM
I really really REALLY hope it looks nothing like that. And it's not "any minute now". Unveiling isn't for another 12 hours. [Edited on September 3, 2014 at 8:30 AM. Reason : g]
9/3/2014 8:27:16 AM
I liked this rendering a lot better, and was hoping it ended up being a "Baby F type" especially if they make a coupe version:Not a big fan of the supposedly more accurate rendering above...guess we'll see tonight.
9/3/2014 2:43:47 PM
if this looks like an F-type I will buy one make my wife buy one so I can drive it on the weekend
9/3/2014 3:14:30 PM
I really hope it doesn't end up looking awesome or I'll end up buying another one. Plz to be ugly like the last generation.
9/3/2014 4:20:33 PM
Bunch of middle aged hairdressers in here
9/3/2014 4:24:15 PM
Shit. I really like that white rendering... Less than 2 hours to go to the reveal.[Edited on September 3, 2014 at 7:09 PM. Reason : .]
9/3/2014 7:07:20 PM
lol @ OEP's render being correct
9/3/2014 9:13:53 PM
Damn, now I'll have to buy one. Need some stats now though. Get Duran Duran off the stage.
9/3/2014 9:27:34 PM
^^lol agreed.
9/3/2014 10:15:15 PM
and omg, that Duran Duran performance was pretty bad. His singing was flat...yup... looks like OEP's photo...The front end looks very BRZ-ish. I would rather Mazda had made it look like the white car Jek posted above in this thread...[Edited on September 3, 2014 at 10:34 PM. Reason : .][Edited on September 3, 2014 at 10:34 PM. Reason : .]
9/3/2014 10:20:22 PM
LOL!DAMMIT, of the 3 renders on this page, it had to be the least attractive and most anonymous one X-Tomi >> TheophilusChin >>>>> Actual
9/3/2014 11:48:00 PM
that's an ugly vehicle.
9/4/2014 12:17:02 AM
and lol at mazda saying a couple of weeks ago "it will look nothing like the current car"
9/4/2014 1:39:28 AM
The styling is actually growing on me. I wish it had more muscular flanks like the white rendering, however I'm quite happy to see the front end slope downward pretty far, opposing the current (horrible) trend of high hood lines with blocky/chunky leading edges.
9/4/2014 8:34:25 AM
it looks like it's making a goofy open mouth smile
9/4/2014 8:48:30 AM
I think it looks great. Still has the iconic miata profile. Wish it came with a turbo though.
9/4/2014 9:20:23 AM
It might, engine details still seem vague.
9/4/2014 10:59:42 AM
I like it. Looking forward to engine specs that will pretty much be unchanged.
9/4/2014 11:37:54 AM
The big news here is the weight drop. A confirmed 100 kg lighter than the NC, woohoo!
9/4/2014 1:02:36 PM
but does it have a black box?
9/4/2014 1:04:13 PM
It's an orange box, so we should be okay
9/4/2014 1:08:56 PM
if its the speculated 200hp motor, it'll be pretty cool imo.
9/4/2014 8:26:37 PM
I hope I never own a car with <=200HP for the rest of my life. What's the point?
9/5/2014 12:03:01 AM
The point is that in a lightweight car like a Miata 200hp gives it a power to weight ratio roughly equal to the BMW 335i.But this car won't have 200 hp.

9/5/2014 11:10:24 AM
I don't see it as happening from a realistic POV. Mazda has stated that the Miata will use a SkyActiv engine, but not which one. Currently the engines being used in other Mazdas are the 2.0 liter - 155 hp and the 2.5 liter - 185 hp. Everything I've read suggests that the Miata will have a 2.0 liter engine, but breathed on a bit to increase horsepower over the existing 155 hp. The current Miata has 167 hp so it's also unlikely that Mazda would decrease the power output (because nobody does that these days). I think a realistic power figure is around 185 hp - which would bother all the FRS/BRZ owners, lol. Then there's the rumored turbo engine that you could hear in a video of a developmental mule...so there's your wildcard. But 200 hp would be sooo sooo sweet in that car.

Agreed. You should check out the forums over at http://www.ft86club.com sometimes. The ignorance and lack of knowledge is pretty staggering at times
9/5/2014 1:54:09 PM
I do not like it, Sam I Am.It looks too aggressive. Not saying that Miatas aren't serious cars--they are--but they've always had an understated style. This one is going away from that, and not in a good direction. It's also too derivative--BRZ, F-Type, S2000...too many influences that seem to have more influence on the design than the classic shape, and that's despite the center section of the car being identical to the current model. It's the Miata equivalent of the C7 'Vette. And that's not a compliment.
