drinking and driving is like making a new thread on TWW every dayjust because you think it's ok doesn't mean you should do it
8/5/2014 9:11:51 PM
sick burn brah.
8/5/2014 9:14:01 PM
never heard of a roadie drink
8/5/2014 9:15:01 PM
No to driving. Yes to walking.
8/5/2014 9:15:15 PM
^^ yeah i was gonna just say roadies but then jcg15 would be talking about how far he's gone with band roadies and nobody wants to hear those stories...so i qualified.]

I wish NC had more relaxed policies regarding alcohol. Re: Sunday alcohol purchase, open container laws, etc.[Edited on August 5, 2014 at 9:22 PM. Reason : Also, The whole ABC store thing. Bevmo > ABC]
8/5/2014 9:21:56 PM
do you mean roadie SODIE?and are you talking about as a passenger or driver? I love drinking and riding
8/5/2014 9:28:40 PM
Honestly, the whole concept has more or less fallen by the wayside for me, since I moved back to DC. It is just not an issue. This is due to public transportation... It is easier to take the subway, walk, bus, or get a cheap cab than drive 9.5/10 times.
8/5/2014 9:29:37 PM
i've never heard of a drink referred to as a "roadie"i mean, i assume it's an alcoholic beverage that you drink while driving or riding as a passenger, but this is the first time i've heard that term.but anyway, i don't approve. reward isn't worth the risk. not even close.[Edited on August 5, 2014 at 9:32 PM. Reason : assuming we're in NC or other states with open container laws]
8/5/2014 9:31:45 PM
We smoke blunts, tote weight, bust shots, attend wakes, baby make, pay rent, stay bent, drink Red Label, duck from jakes, be flagrant
8/5/2014 9:32:58 PM
Road Soda
8/5/2014 9:49:45 PM
Yeah Road Soda's all I've ever heard it called.
8/5/2014 10:34:57 PM
road beer? Down with it as a passenger.
8/6/2014 8:31:46 AM
"Road beers" is usually my term for this. And if we're going to a football game or something like that, I'm fine with people drinking in my car, if I'm the one driving. I would never drink while I'm driving though. But if my passengers want to drink a beer on the 20 minute ride to the stadium, then that's fine with me.
8/6/2014 8:45:50 AM
No drinking as the driver, but I will let people drink if I'm driving so long as they aren't already drunk or being obnoxious. Before I turned 21 I wouldn't though, and I remember pissing a few people off by telling them they couldn't bring an open beer in my car. I once drank a FourLoko while Fareako was driving on a trip to Georgia. Pretty sure he thought about stopping at a rest stop and leaving me there because I was in drunk hyper can't stop talking mode.
8/6/2014 8:53:47 AM
no, because I don't want a ticket for you drinking and me not. Seems rude.
8/6/2014 8:54:15 AM
As a person with a record if you even think about bringing a drink into a car I'm driving you will get punched in the face.
8/6/2014 8:58:18 AM
I'm a big fan of road beers as a passenger.
8/6/2014 9:07:59 AM
G.S. § 18B-401 says that it is illegal to transport open containers in your car , but G.S. 20-138.7 requires that you have alcohol in your system. So my understanding is that only the passenger would be guilty of violating G.S. § 20-138.7, but the driver would still be guilty of violating G.S. § 18B-401 even if they have not had any alcohol. any lawyers on here want to clarify?
8/6/2014 9:08:00 AM
I was always under the impression that the driver would get a ticket for an open-container if a passenger is drinking in the car.
8/6/2014 10:44:12 AM
Thats what I always assumed as well
8/6/2014 10:56:09 AM
Road Sodas are ok in my book.
8/6/2014 11:41:27 AM
I was okay with taking the risk as a passenger (never the driver) until several years ago when I was on the way back from Carolina Beach after a rained out beach party. We stopped at a gas station, and I asked my buddy who was driving if I could take a road beer. He said he'd prefer if I just chugged it in the parking lot, so I did, and less than a mile down the road there was a check point not worth the risk with our laws
8/6/2014 11:58:44 AM
^what happens at a check point? do they search your car? or just smell the driver's breath to make sure they haven't been drinking?
8/6/2014 12:04:56 PM
The open container law was to prevent the driver from being able to hand a beer off to passengers. I am almost certain the driver can get the ticket and is responsible for all in the car.
8/6/2014 12:15:14 PM
not per G.S. 20-138.7they are violating G.S. § 18B-401 but i can't find what the punishment is for that
8/6/2014 12:22:48 PM
You need one of these bad boys

8/6/2014 12:40:33 PM
fun fact - if you ride in the trunk of an SUV or the bed of a pickup truck in NC it's not considered to be a "passenger area" of the vehicle and you can drink all you want. never cool for the driver to have an open container.
8/6/2014 12:41:32 PM
Would be nice if the law was: If a driver who is pulled over volunteers for a field breathalyser test and blows .00, then any ticket for open beverage in the vehicle would not be given.
8/6/2014 12:59:12 PM
or just get rid of the stupid law to begin with.

Finish your drink before you get in my car, or you aren't riding with me. If you can't finish your drink quickly, you are not hardcore to have been drinking and riding with me in the first place.
