A lot of people streaming out of the AB/Beaufort direction up US70....seemed to be an almost equal number coming in.
7/3/2014 1:30:59 PM
^ 40 SE of Raleigh was the same way.

The wind was blowing pretty hard for a few minutes here in Morehead City but now that has basically subsided and it's alternating between steady rain and downpouring.
7/3/2014 6:03:54 PM
Well get ready as they are calling for a possible landfall at cape lookout now. Means you will get the strongest of it.
7/3/2014 7:22:26 PM
My parents live in Morehead City on the sound and they are prepared now, but not for long-term power outage (multiple days) but that's unlikely. I'm coming down tomorrow morning. We'll have to see what damage there is. I'm guessing that Cape Lookout/Emerald Isle/Atlantic Beach/Morehead City/Beaufort/Harker's Island are all gonna have a bad time.
7/3/2014 7:58:56 PM
Gusts are starting to get pretty strong now, feeling like in the 50-70 range occasionally. Rain isn't downpouring as bad.

Came back from Hatteras today. I was heading home about an hour after they opened the bridge to the public. The whole southbound lane of Bonner was filled end to end with cars.Scared the hell out of me to cross the bridge

^reading the news today, with them closing it anytime theres a hurricane, I thought it was more about the winds and the top platform. Reading on, its more about the sand shifting in the channel and the supports.

There's a thread in CC for this. Oh well.message_topic.aspx?topic=642259

Hurricane talk is always in The Lounge, though.

We've got some promising stuff headed into the Atlantic from Africa over the weekend. Could easily see something develop by Wednesday of next week.
8/15/2014 8:44:17 AM
Negative, conditions are pretty unfavorable out there just as they were last year. Every wave comes off and is met with dry air and shear and dies before it can even get going. Unless the pattern changes quite a bit we need to look closer to home for storm development yet again this year. The pacific has once again been the place to watch if you enjoy following nice looking storms rather than things like Bertha who was a disgrace to hurricanes everywhere haha.
8/15/2014 8:56:31 AM
Hey it's Wednesday and we might have something
8/20/2014 5:12:22 PM
I hate strongly dislike El Ninos...
8/20/2014 9:43:01 PM
Good thing we wont have one until this winter at the earliest and chances are becoming greater we dont have one at all.
8/21/2014 8:52:31 AM
Yeah this "current" (or whatever) El Nino has been a flop - very weak. Not an expert, but can the (thus far) quiet season even be blamed on it at this point?
8/21/2014 9:39:00 AM
^ I am not sure if El Nino is fully a flop, but it may be a weak one. As for other causes there has been quite a bit of Saharan Dust in the atmosphere in the tropical Atlantic (which is likely a factor).
8/21/2014 1:38:01 PM
thanks
8/21/2014 3:05:05 PM
The relationship between my dislike for El NiƱo and their strength is not necessarily 1:1.
8/22/2014 7:48:29 AM
hahaha

Baja got smacked pretty good last night, reports coming in with lots of damage down there. Tied for strongest hurricane ever to hit them and there may be another one on its heels.
9/15/2014 10:21:08 AM
^ i haven't kept up...are those affecting us in NC in any way?
9/15/2014 10:37:30 AM
Define "affect".
9/15/2014 11:42:36 AM
Yeah not directly, its always possible we see some enhanced rainfall in our area if one gets caught up in a front or something. Indirectly the E. Pacific being so active in turn is helping keep the Atlantic inactive which is good for us here in NC.
9/15/2014 11:50:08 AM
^don't tell that to HockeyRoman!
9/15/2014 11:51:20 AM
well, i realize weather around the world "affects" us, but if a major storm isn't going to come anywhere near me, i don't really care about it
9/15/2014 2:08:18 PM
^if only everyone adopted that mentalityI'm Krallum and I approved this message.
9/15/2014 3:30:51 PM
Why has the gulf of Mexico been dead? I haven't been following this season at all but theres no reason extra dust or unfavorable winds in the east atlantic should suppress storms this much.
