http://www.wral.com/system-could-become-first-tropical-storm-of-the-season-affect-nc/13775031/Glad that I have to work all weekend. Gonna be some pissy tourists at the beach this weekend!
6/30/2014 12:44:52 PM
I am going to the beach the 4-11. It is my wifes whole family (siblings, their significant others, and their kids, and my mother in law, her SO and his kids) Gonna be like 12 people in a 3 bedroom 2 bath condo...and apparently shitty weather. ]
6/30/2014 12:57:42 PM
haha, we finished our new deck and beach access gazebo just in time for a storm
6/30/2014 1:18:13 PM
^^ that is pretty much my idea of hellFriends I could handle it, but family I would be pulling my hair out in 4 hours. Or theirs.
6/30/2014 1:22:27 PM
Fuck going to the beach on holiday weekends....its way too crowded. Chill and have a cookout at the house and go to the beach on the "off" weekends.
6/30/2014 1:34:23 PM
6/30/2014 1:37:49 PM
great. we are taking our yearly week long beach trip this weekend. ugh.
6/30/2014 1:48:31 PM
yeah going to the beach on a holiday weekend is impossible unless you get there before 8am. otherwise you get caught up in a clusterfuck of traffic and probably end up paying $30 to park somewhere.
6/30/2014 1:49:32 PM
if i had beach plans this weekend i would be happy with this because it means fewer people and better surfing
6/30/2014 1:52:58 PM
Oh great, work well probably close early Thursday and be closed on Friday, that sucks...oh wait no it doesn't.It'll just be a cat 1 at most when it gets here, nothing to worry about.
7/1/2014 8:41:22 AM
maybe this storm will offer a chance for a hurricane party in Raleigh.
7/1/2014 8:58:44 AM
I am in Atlantic Beach with my family for the week. My wife is already freaking out wanting to leave tomorrow to avoid certain death from the storm. I'm saying wait it out and Friday afternoon and Saturday will be awesome down here. What say you TWW?
7/1/2014 10:27:14 AM
^^won't be anything more severe than a bad thunderstorm, at best, this far inland. Barely gonna be hurricane strength at the coast, if it even gets that strong. Not a lot of hurricanes have been hitting the US the last few years though, so I'm sure some people will take what they can get
7/1/2014 10:37:57 AM
rip fireworks
7/1/2014 10:42:50 AM
stay there Mikey.I've been down there for a Cat 2 that should have been a 3...that was a bit nerve racking but all in all its not that bad.Just make sure you have plenty of water and food since you dunno how long the power will be out and see if that area is prone to flooding, if so move your cars.
7/1/2014 10:44:54 AM
I agree!
7/1/2014 10:52:06 AM
Unless I was on the Outer Banks and it was less than a Cat 3 I'd probably stay as well.
7/1/2014 11:12:52 AM
In still heading down Friday no matter what.

haha, certain death. I've been through several hurricanes at the coast, they can be quite fun, if you like doing stupid stuff.
7/1/2014 11:42:19 AM

YALL WATCH'IS
7/1/2014 3:02:41 PM
^^ That's actually not too far off considering it's because of El Nino that we've had and will continue to likely have a garbage hurricane season.
7/1/2014 3:15:53 PM
7/1/2014 3:27:26 PM
is it gonna get shitty or not?
7/2/2014 12:36:49 AM
I'm down hereI had a nice couple of days at least
7/2/2014 1:31:22 AM
Had some friends take off work at noon yesterday and made it to Ocracoke only to find out they are shutting down the national parks at noon today. They said they were planning to cram 4 days of drinking into 1...so die.
7/2/2014 7:10:31 AM
Down at Topsail now, can't wait for this thing to come through. On the plus side, we're in one of the tallest houses down here, so we can see pretty much everything. On the down side, we're in on of the tallest houses down here, so we get to experience pretty much everything.
7/2/2014 7:38:46 AM
Weather at the coast looks great for Saturday Sunday.
7/2/2014 8:19:44 AM
^^I don't get #2, in regards to an event such as this one.
7/2/2014 8:42:24 AM
^more wind exposure.
7/2/2014 8:42:57 AM
you're worried about wind exposure in a storm that is < cat 3? [Edited on July 2, 2014 at 8:48 AM. Reason : .]

Conditions deteriorate tomorrow afternoon through Friday morning/early afternoon with gusty winds & periods of moderate to heavy rain. By that point, the storm should be rapidly lifting towards the NE with the upper level trough pushing it out, and the mid to late afternoon of the 4th (may still be kinda windy w/ some wrap-around moisture possible) through the weekend should be nice with high pressure settling in. [/briefsynopsis]As I posted in the other thread, this storm appears to be taking a track very similar to Hurricane ALex in 2004. That storm rapidly went from a tropical storm to a Cat. 2 hurricane in about 12-15 hours, fueled by the warm Gulf Stream current. Definitely something to watch out for since this storm became a TS further south than Alex did (i.e., should spend more time over the Gulf Stream).

Topsail wont get much anyways...Atlantic beach, EI, Morehead etc...they will.
7/2/2014 1:02:35 PM
2pm advisory has the projected path a little more west of where it was at 11am.
7/2/2014 2:09:40 PM
anyone have a link to a projected storm surge map?found it:http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/210553.shtml?inundation#contents[Edited on July 2, 2014 at 3:28 PM. Reason : .]

Leaving for New Bern tomorrow morning. Yay!! -_- At least the dogs won't trapped be with us.
7/2/2014 3:35:55 PM
A hurricane on the 4th how un-american. MUST be Obama's fault....
7/2/2014 3:36:29 PM
On thing to watch if Arthur struggles to strengthen: Particulate matter concentrations are quite high over the Carolinas/Georgia (except for the Coastal Plain) this afternoon due to Saharan dust over the region. If the storm begins to ingest the dust, then it could possibly weaken it some or prevent it from blowing up in intensity.
