Glad that I have to work all weekend. Gonna be some pissy tourists at the beach this weekend!

I am going to the beach the 4-11.

It is my wifes whole family (siblings, their significant others, and their kids, and my mother in law, her SO and his kids) Gonna be like 12 people in a 3 bedroom 2 bath condo...and apparently shitty weather.

^^ that is pretty much my idea of hell

Friends I could handle it, but family I would be pulling my hair out in 4 hours. Or theirs.

Fuck going to the beach on holiday weekends....its way too crowded. Chill and have a cookout at the house and go to the beach on the "off" weekends.

yeah going to the beach on a holiday weekend is impossible unless you get there before 8am. otherwise you get caught up in a clusterfuck of traffic and probably end up paying $30 to park somewhere.

Oh great, work well probably close early Thursday and be closed on Friday, that sucks...oh wait no it doesn't.

It'll just be a cat 1 at most when it gets here, nothing to worry about.

maybe this storm will offer a chance for a hurricane party in Raleigh.

I am in Atlantic Beach with my family for the week. My wife is already freaking out wanting to leave tomorrow to avoid certain death from the storm. I'm saying wait it out and Friday afternoon and Saturday will be awesome down here. What say you TWW?

^^won't be anything more severe than a bad thunderstorm, at best, this far inland. Barely gonna be hurricane strength at the coast, if it even gets that strong.

Not a lot of hurricanes have been hitting the US the last few years though, so I'm sure some people will take what they can get

stay there Mikey.

I've been down there for a Cat 2 that should have been a 3...that was a bit nerve racking but all in all its not that bad.

Just make sure you have plenty of water and food since you dunno how long the power will be out and see if that area is prone to flooding, if so move your cars.

Unless I was on the Outer Banks and it was less than a Cat 3 I'd probably stay as well.

You're absolutely fine. It's not even a tropical depression yet, and I don't even know if it's going to be a strong system at all. It will just be windy and rainy, it really won't be dangerous at all. You're insane if you think Friday and Saturday will be awesome though--it'll still be packed and it won't even be nice.

While it won't be a dangerous storm, these two items are what everyone visiting the coast will probably forget about. Maybe not so much the power outages but more the flooding. Hell I've watched CB flood after a 15 minute downpour.

^^ That's actually not too far off considering it's because of El Nino that we've had and will continue to likely have a garbage hurricane season.

Had some friends take off work at noon yesterday and made it to Ocracoke only to find out they are shutting down the national parks at noon today. They said they were planning to cram 4 days of drinking into 1...so die.

Down at Topsail now, can't wait for this thing to come through.
On the plus side, we're in one of the tallest houses down here, so we can see pretty much everything.
On the down side, we're in on of the tallest houses down here, so we get to experience pretty much everything.

Conditions deteriorate tomorrow afternoon through Friday morning/early afternoon with gusty winds & periods of moderate to heavy rain. By that point, the storm should be rapidly lifting towards the NE with the upper level trough pushing it out, and the mid to late afternoon of the 4th (may still be kinda windy w/ some wrap-around moisture possible) through the weekend should be nice with high pressure settling in. [/briefsynopsis]

As I posted in the other thread, this storm appears to be taking a track very similar to Hurricane ALex in 2004. That storm rapidly went from a tropical storm to a Cat. 2 hurricane in about 12-15 hours, fueled by the warm Gulf Stream current. Definitely something to watch out for since this storm became a TS further south than Alex did (i.e., should spend more time over the Gulf Stream).

I don't like rainwater in my beer and the increased wind means the covered 4th floor deck is useless.

On thing to watch if Arthur struggles to strengthen: Particulate matter concentrations are quite high over the Carolinas/Georgia (except for the Coastal Plain) this afternoon due to Saharan dust over the region. If the storm begins to ingest the dust, then it could possibly weaken it some or prevent it from blowing up in intensity.
