Oh look....another thread about tipping.

yah this is already being discussed in the 2398742396 other tipping threads.you gotta come original brah.

good, no need to pay more for service anyway, that's the job they were hired for, I shouldn't have to pay for itthe menu price of the food is all I should have to pay.p.s. look at the comments on the article, lolzabout like a tww thread (i.e. everyone is an expert, and if you don't agree with me you're a moron)
6/14/2014 10:58:40 AM
^ are you going to bitch when they raise the price on the menu 10-20% to cover wages for staff?
6/14/2014 12:54:06 PM
^^ are you going to be happy getting the same level of service you get at Walmart? because if you guarantee the servers a minimum wage, what's the incentive for good service? then they're not going to worry about your table, but rather the guy who slipped a $10 bill underneath the table and said hey man I know this is a no tipping restaurant but I want to make sure you take care of us

ibt first "Canadians" reference

^^if a server was consistently bad any good restaurant manager would quickly have them replaced.

^i was more referring to the difference in service between someone who's performance is determining their pay versus someone who is guaranteed an hourly wage and just really has to go through the motions. I am not saying service will be terrible but look at the difference in service at a fast food restaurant versus a tipped sit down restaurant.

It has pros and cons. It's like this in the UK, but service can be hit or miss, but not necessarily any more than it is in the U.S. Maybe less attentive, but I guess I'm not high-demand about that.

I've always had good managers at the restaurants I was at. The only problem is there are usually ~5 other managers who are completely incompetent and make the lone good manager feel suicidal.

I could see waiters being salaried employees at high end restaurants. This would never work at red lobsterSo I just read the article. Most people I know that wait tables make a couple hundred a shift. This model seems shitty [Edited on June 15, 2014 at 11:15 PM. Reason : M]
6/15/2014 11:13:12 PM
this is so dumb.no one would work in a restaurant if they made $10 an hour. if you work at a busy place, you're making $20-30 an hour easily (if not more)

Yeah I don't get the whole bad service thing. If I get bad service at a place I tend to not keep going there. If an owner is seeing bad service from waitstaff he's gonna have to correct that otherwise he's going to be out of business.I'd just assume pay these people a real wage and build it into the bill.
6/17/2014 11:47:44 AM
that is one thing i missed in the article...are they increasing the price of their food? i would assume so but it wasn't explicitly stated.
