As I get older, I hope I am not that toolbag that clings to youthful things/culture/what's cool just to "seem" younger that I become this painful train wreck to watch. Just want to be me, I hope.

thinking my thoughts.

I am 32.

I like to think that the younger generation reaches for counterculture/iconoclasts for this very reason. The new culture is so offputting that the majority of old folks can't hang

Some old dude's try to stay hip and fashionable and spend a bunch of money on chlothes and wear tight pants and stuff. Some don't care and wear the same t-shirts and comfortable cargo shorts that they wore when they were younger.

Just be yourself.

There are definitely people I know who are 30-40+ and still legitimately and naturally pull off being youthful, fashionable if not a bid trendy, writing great music, or whatever people associate with appearing young.

I also know lots of people that same age who try painfully hard and absolutely don't pull it off because it's not them.

As I get older, I hope I am not that boring person that has given up things they like just because "older people arent supposed to do that anymore" just to seem "mature" and that I dont become this painfully boring, out of touch, irrelevant snooze-fest who no longer has their own identity. Just want to be me, I hope.

thinking my thoughts.

I am 37.

I dress comfortable and dont give a fuck. I act professional when I work, and when Im off I relax and do everything I can not to be assumed to be what I am.

Im not trying to be young, Im just being who I am. It took me 32 years to reach the point where I truly do not give a fuck what others think, and it feels good.

Some people don't have a real self, or they really, really don't like their real self.

They're actually fantastic until a conflict/contradiction/reality arises; then, ideally, they disappear...move on to a new job or new friends where they can promote/affirm their false self-image until it's exposed again.

Weird post, I know. It's just something I've been noticing lately. Sometimes, people who are preoccupied with "seeming" a certain way (young or whatever) aren't just lame and superficial...they're not real people at all...and they don't even know it.

I've been wondering if these people have value, how to handle them, and whether or not they can be helped to develop a real self.

The older I get the less fucks I have to give about what people think of me and how I live my life.

Knitting is cool.

I am 26.

I stopped really caring in grad school. Though I don't know if I've ever been all that concerned with what people thought... I mean in grade school/undergrad I certainly cared a lot more than I do now, but I don't think I cared all that much.

I really like the juxtaposition of high waist and short short. It's wicked cute to me.

What I've learned from this thread is in order to be myself when I get older I need to dress like a fat slob.

Got it.
