Besides Chromecast and Apple TV, what are some good alternatives for wireless screen mirroring for something like a conference room tv or projector. I would prefer something that doesn't require a software installation for every user but that may be unavoidable. Any suggestions?

I've been looking at Miracast as an option. Any experience with this?

anybody can connect to a particular room without additional installed sofware by going to http://g.co/present and joining a room, then you can share your screen. google hangouts always shows a row of participants profile images at the bottom, so the screen sharing is not 100% of the screen size, probably takes up like 2/3 of the screen

Why are you immediately dismissing what are probably the two most popular, easiest to set up, cheapest options to do what you want to do?

^Because they dont work for arbitrary content. I had the same problem trying to find a simple way to screen mirror to our team room TV here at work.

Miracast devices are (or were as of a few months ago) still so damn finicky that I couldn't rely on them. Tried the Netgear Push2TV and 2 or 3 generic other ones. They all had major problems reliably connecting.

Ended up using TightVNC and leaving a non-intranet connected laptop attached to the TV. I spent a couple of weeks of spare time trying to find a solution and never did find anything that worked reliably.

^What do you mean by arbitrary content? You can mirror your entire screen to an Apple TV.

Chromecast only casts what's in your browser. For a company that works out of multiple software environments, that doesn't work for us.

Apple TV only works with MACs right? We have a lot of Windows PCs.

Chromecast will cast your entire desktop, its okay for static content but not good for anything that moves or changes or can't have a delay

I actually just tried this on the chromecast we've got and it is definitely buggy. It will probably get better in the 2nd version of Chromecast but for now, we need something more stable.

We're trying to find the best alternative for a conference room. Vendors come in and use their own laptops for demonstrations, presentations, etc. It'd be nice to be able to something that doesn't require software to be installed on every individual computer. That may not be possible, but that's ideally what we want.

well remember that not every computer supports miracast

if you really want anyone to use it without installing anything or setting up anything, your only real option is to run a cable or use something like a wireless HDMI transmitter that will involve plugging into a device that then wirelessly transmits to another attached to your display

Good to know I'm not alone. Most of what I/we present is interactive and motion stuff, which results in horrible screen tearing and lag with everything I've tried outside of Miracast.

Miracast will probably be awesome in another 2-3 years. You can just tell the technology is incredible new and immature.

I'm with dtownral, if you require it to be wireless, Apple TV + AirParrot ftw. I definitely understand the clientless requirement though. I've never tried to Thinapp AirParrot but that might be an option.

Otherwise, you have to use a cable.
