The guy with the gym in Raleigh is a loony mix between Karl Rove and Cliven Bundy

Got me. You made it seem as there was just one Krav Maga place in Raleigh, which is believable. I Google Krav Maga Raleigh and I get http://kravmagaraleigh.com/ which is owned by the guy I posted about.Hell the one you're talking about is in Durham...and it's weird that two of the local places are owned by left/right political dudes.[Edited on May 20, 2014 at 10:54 PM. Reason : But holy fuck the dude you're talking about is cray cray]

One of my best friends started doing Krav Maga a few months ago and he won't stop talking about it. He is always posting pictures on FB of bruises and stuff that he has all over him. If he wasn't such a good friend of mine I would have blocked him ages ago, but now I just call him out whenever he posts stuff about it.

IMO it's either this or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu if you're truly serious about learning self defense that has a modicum chance of working in an actual violent situation. Essentially all other martial arts are masturbation. Personally I go for training running and endurance to GTFO in such situations. http://www.samharris.org/blog/item/the-truth-about-violence

I did BJJ for a month (stopped because I no longer had health insurance) and it was fun, but I wanted something a little more intense. I took one (still no health insurance at this point) KM class and it seemed to be the intensity I was looking for, but was way more expensive and not as conveniently located. I had a bunch of bruises afterwards too.I heard about the guy in Durham from the people in the Raleigh location and they said he was crazy - like used loaded guns/live ammunition in his classes crazy.[Edited on May 21, 2014 at 2:08 PM. Reason : cray]

Hmm I just searched for this thread and the resulting posts aren't the inspiration I was looking for.

Me too.I had thought in the past that meant cooks from Denmark were the worst, then I looked it up and realized Dane Cook was a bad comedian. [Edited on June 18, 2015 at 8:38 AM. Reason : .]

I did BJJ for a while till I cracked a rib in class. I would say intensity depends on the class/instructor.
