Its not gonna help your kid get a job people, the workplace doesn't care about your philosophy on controlling every single interaction your kid has until age 18.

"The GED is for people who haven't finished high school," he said. "

LOL

The GED requirement makes perfect sense, however, the company should go based on the skills the kid has. It looks like though this guy's work experience is nonexistent, so I don't blame them for not trusting his cereal box high school diploma. Any reasonably intelligent person could take the GED blind and pass it... shouldn't be a big deal.

Back in middle school though, one of my friends (named eli) was home schooled until 5th grade, but he was really smart. I guess his parents had the sense to put him in public school early enough, they seemed to teach him normal things too though.

Do they? Most think it is not.

However, an increasing number of parents are starting to homeschool because the current public school system sucks so much in so many part of the country.

It appears to me that 90+% of homeschooling isn't about quality of education (though they'll certainly claim it and have legitimate gripes about the public system--just rarely ability to do better on their own). It's mostly about imparting a religious curriculum, dodging academia that conflicts with their own dumbass religious and/or cultural views, and insulating their kids from those godless, heathen kids in public schools.

my cousins on my moms side were home schooled. They both turned out great. I remember when I first heard they were going to do that I figured they'd turn out like antisocial weirdos. Both ofg them were active in extracurriculur organizations and activities so maybe that had something to do with it

I had a neighbor that was home schooled growing up. Her family did not believe in TV and did not have any TVs in the house. She was a teenager and still liked to pretend she was a dog, like walk on all fours and bark and shit. . . . .

Not sure how she ended up, but I remember thinking then this is not going to end well.

Great points ITT. I think the motivation is really what you have to look at. Also, if the parents know when they're jurting more than helping and that it's time to turn it over to the professionals, that's ideal. I think the social (anti) aspect is blown out of proportion. People learn to distrust outsiders from their folks.

Worked with a dumbass guy who married this crazy religious bitch with 2 daughters and they were home schooling them.

This same guy was trying to help a woman put on her spare tire in the parking lot and came up to me and the maintenance guy and said "Hey, i cant get these lug nuts to loosen, the tire just keeps spinning around."

What the fuck can he teach a kid?

Seriously though, those two little girls were done for, they were like 11 and 13 last I saw of them and the older one was writing at like a 4th grade level at most and they were sheltered as fuck

I was homeschooled when my parents were missionaries, but they were the progressive hippie kind of Christians and not the republican kind so I was 2 grades ahead when I went into public school

Being progressive hippies, what do your parents think about your hatred of homeless people?
