So Wednesday April 30th I'm supposed to by flying to Minneapolis as part of the 1st leg of my trip to Portland.

I saw on the forecast that here in Charlotte we are supposed to having "Strong Storms." In fear of having a cancelled or delayed flight how easy would it be to work with Delta to switch to a earlier flight.

My current flight is full and leaves CLT at 4:57. I noticed Delta had earlier non-stops to MSP at 11:08 and 2:40 with several empty seats. How easy/expensive would it be to switch to one of these earlier flights?

usually it's a $200 fee. Do it sooner, rather than later.

I just did this about a month ago, though I changed from Monday to Wednesday. It did indeed cost me $200. Same for all the other guys on my team. Delta made some bux off of us that day.

Best thing you can do is call, see what they'll do. They might move you for free if there's an unusually high demand for your existing flight.

If you're not time sensitive, why not just wait to see if it gets cancelled or delayed?

I can see shelling out $200 if you've gotta be somewhere at a certain time, but it'd have to be really important.

I did this with Continental in '09 due to an ice storm predicted for my departure date/airport. Got me out the day before for no charge albeit had to go north from Atlanta to NYC in order to get to TX. Long day/night but got the job done at no cost due to the weather.

PS I walked into the airport and asked didn't BS with phone or e-mails

I don't want to eat in time for my vacation. If I get in to Portland at a decent time, a friend is going to pick me up. I also have a brief business appointment for an hour at 10AM the next day. If $50 buys me insurance on getting there on schedule than I think it is worth it. My layover in Minneapolis is 1 hr 10 min so my room for error is slim....

Well damn I guess Delta is trying to up there customer service.

Not only did they move my flight to an earlier time, they also gave me an open economy comport seat. Additionally my boss requested that an extra day for business. Delta didn't even charge me to move my flight from the 6th to the 7th

Bump. I have a work trip planned and just found out my sister is having a baby the same weekend. Need to add a leg to go see her and my new nephew (I'll be a first-time uncle, so I'm excited). But I can't afford the $200 switch. Has anyone found a way around this? I'll be flying United.

It might be cheaper to just book a new flight and miss the return one I already have

I had a $200 flight booked for a work trip. Work trip was cancelled. Due to the cost of switching/rescheduling a flight, I just did...nothing. Haha.

^Did you book through a travel management company? That's one of the nice things of using one... the airline typically lets them keep the canceled fare for some re-use.

I received a schedule change alert but only a difference of a few minutes...is that enough to push for flight changes?

I have MiledgePlus so I can make the change 24 hours before the flight for only $75...as long as there are open seats so it's a risk.
