So we play the Steelers in the preseason and during the regular season? That seems odd.

We play Pittsburgh in the preseason every year

We're playing the AFC North this year in the regular season

It's the 4th preseason game, so Cam and Ben will play one series at most.

That schedule looks mighty favorable outside of October.

9-7 or 10-6

Dammit, they suck so bad at scheduling Thursday night games.
Seahawks and Saints 4 days apart?
That's some bullshit.

One week til the draft. Big question is do the Panthers go WR or OT in the first?

If he's there, I'm taking Marquis Lee all day. He's a game-breaker when he's healthy.

I am of the mind set that as soon as you have to clarify a guy with "when he is healthy" you don't take them in the first round if anyone comparable is available or you have another position of need to address.

I'd rather draft a kid with a prosthetic leg than another USC wideout.

^Exactly. Avoid USC WRs, esp. in the first round.

Every mock I've seen in the last 2 weeks has us going OT in the first, makes sense considering the perceived depth of WR in this draft class and how late we're picking. Doubtful that we find a game-breaking #1 WR at our pick, but we can probably find a solid OT.

You guys realize how nonsensical it sounds to not draft an individual player because of where they went to school dont you?

"According to Field Yates of ESPN.com, Godfrey has taken a massive pay cut, dropping his base salary from $5 million to $750,000. He can still make $1.7 million of it back in per-game bonuses."

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/06/charles-godfrey-takes-a-big-pay-cut-to-stay-with-panthers/

Frees up about 4 million in salary cap for us.

Solid move. If Gettleman can get a Hardy deal done the cap situation goes from incredibly shitty to not great, but could be worse.

Wow, I thought he was just going to be a cap casualty but this is best case scenario. Gettleman is a damn miracle worker, imagine if Hurney had actually left him some damn cap room to work with.

"The Panthers are eyeing FSU’s Kelvin Benjamin, USC’s Marqise Lee and Louisville’s Calvin Pryor at No. 28, reports Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer."

I'd take Lee over the other 2, but would be really surprised if those are our top 3 targets.

I dont know how indicative Wonderlic scores are of success, but I am pretty sure Benjamin was the lowest scorer of all tested, getting a 7 out of 50.

I just really want someone that can contribute from day 1 in a position of need

I'm not sure how Gettleman will approach it, but my guess is we'll go BPA or trade back(if even possible). Not sure if I can see us reaching for an OT or WR at our pick if the board falls the wrong way for us.

^^ I don't give a damn about a Wonderlic score. All I want to know is if he can play football. Having watched him all season in the ACC, I feel pretty good about his ability.

Our recent history with USC wide receivers makes me hope we do not draft Lee.

This angle drives me crazy and it's completely illogical. School has no bearing on whether a player is a bust or not.

^Kinda/sorta agree, esp. in this case.

If it's the same coaching staff/system, yes it can be related when they keep producing great college players that do nothing in the NFL, but this isn't the same USC system that churned out several highly rated WRs that never panned out. I'm more concerned about the knee issues that ailed him last season, and took him from top 10 pick to late 1st round pick, more so than what college he went to.

Don't think it matters, can't imagine Lee slipping past the Saints and can't imagine us moving up to pick a WR.

depending on what happens with the qbs in the first round, i could definitely see the pnathers getting offers for their pick from teams looking to move in front of the QB needy Texans/Jags/Browns/etc in order to get the guy they want.

Trading back would be great for us, the OTs are going high and we have a bunch of teams between now and our pick that are looking to go WR or CB.

Read our staff was low on Moses, so unlikely we go with him. Gettleman is a BPA fan, so can't see him reaching on the OT we really like(Joel Bitonio) and hoping he doesn't reach on Kelvin Benjamin.

I heard the exact opposite about Moses. We met with him 3 different times. I think we pick him, if he's there at 28.

yeah think you just need to get as many pics as you can at this point, all the guarantees are gone so you might as well just step back and up your chances by probability instead of trying to make a savvy pick
