[quote]"N.C. State University is pulling together a detailed plan for tearing down Harrelson Hall, the endlessly-flawed cylindrical building that has visually dominated the university’s outdoor social hub, the Brickyard, for more than half a century. The demolition likely would happen in the summer of 2016."

while i was at state, a professor told our class that harrelson held a world record for "most efficient use of space in a university building" because it could house more students at once, per square foot, than any other similar building. i wonder if that is true.

Harrison Hall
4/23/2014 11:24:23 PM
I always heard that some engineering student at NCSU submitted a plan for Harrison as a final project of some sort, only to have the idea shot down by their professor as a nonviable.I assume this is a myth.

With centennial buildings going up, and renovations being completed in the neighboring buildings, they finally have enough classroom space to demolition harrelson. Unless the university undergoes a spike in students, harrelson is coming down.

I have had all my math classes there (MA131, 231, and I don't remember the # for calc 3) and hoards of history hours in that building, I've put in my time. And hated every credit hour.Good article though.I think my favorite classrooms, aesthetically at least, were out at the old mill turned into a classroom building. It started with a T....

i also heard the library is sinking because they didn't calculate the weight of the books.
4/28/2014 7:08:26 PM
i heard it was supposed to be square but the contractor liked oreos and made it round instead

I heard the dell dude burned down the atrium for the insurance money
4/28/2014 7:58:42 PM
I heard it was supposed to be a library, but they didn't design for the weight of the books so they stopped. Also heard that they used to have, and spent lots of money on, curved chalkboards only to have it so people at the front sides couldn't see the opposite side.

I heard that if you didn't share a bunch of stupid goddamn rumors about a building that your mom would die within 15 minutes and you'd have bad luck for 13 months.
4/29/2014 9:53:25 AM
^ so did your mom die a little after 10 this morning?trying to think of other odd buildings on campus, are the Riddick Stadium offices still standing or are they long gone?[Edited on April 29, 2014 at 8:21 PM. Reason : .]
