didn't conan say at one time that letterman was the whole reason he wanted to be a late night host or something? I guess it'd be cool if he took over the job. they both have something in common from getting dicked over by leno
4/3/2014 6:30:06 PM
you should quit watching so much tv and:1) collect posters of lettuce, tomatoes2) make playlists for "Girls"
4/3/2014 6:30:14 PM
ferguson has dibs and already works for dave, but i think he likes the fact that he can do whatever the hell he pleases at 12:35. i could be wrong.amy sedaris would be an incredible choice.
4/3/2014 6:48:31 PM
I think Dane Cook would be a breath of fresh air
4/3/2014 8:59:27 PM
If it was someone different and interesting like Louis CK or Larry David I'd probably start watching late night TV for the first time in many years. But it will prob be some boring shithead like Conan or Ellen
4/3/2014 9:07:51 PM
Dual hosts:Actually while that would be awesome, I'm pretty sure Lorne Michaels owns their souls.
4/3/2014 9:13:41 PM
Timberlake
4/4/2014 6:16:26 AM
Steve Harvey
4/4/2014 7:48:26 AM
They are going for Seinfeld, but Louis CK has an outside shot, also Chris Rock may want in on it
4/4/2014 8:50:52 AM
I know the format and length is entirely different, but Chelsea Handler is great. She may be too risqué for network television and not good for a longer format show.
4/4/2014 9:45:47 AM
Rob Lowe, as Arsenio Beckman
4/4/2014 9:55:04 AM
4/4/2014 10:46:15 AM
Colbert
4/4/2014 11:31:27 AM
^^^^ Chelsea Handler is the worst

The problem with the joke suggestions in this thread is that some of the serious suggestions are so bad that the joke ones don't even look so silly next to them

^^i think the same thing. Ferguson is good at his slot, I don't see him really sliding up to 1130. Same with Conan.
4/4/2014 3:53:53 PM
Conan replacing Letterman makes infinitely more sense than him replacing Lenoin a perfect, contract-free world, he would have been the natural progression[Edited on April 4, 2014 at 4:04 PM. Reason : it's all about brand of humor/the audience who watches]

I ran across an article yesterday that suggested Ellen DeGeneres...yes, seriously. I dont have an issue with her at all, I just think she would be terrible at late night.I think it should be CraigyFergs to turn down, but I would hate to see him be limited in what he can do on the show (ie, an episode done completely with puppets, touring Scotland, etc). That being said, the Late Show does not have the history of The Tonight Show (it didnt exist before Dave), so maybe the network wont be so strict on the format (robot and horse sidekicks), plus competition is now Fallon and Kimmel (not Jay Leno and Nightline)...not sure you can worry about the old fogies and stay competitive in the ratings.
4/4/2014 7:10:45 PM
Any thoughts on when we'll reach the point, demographically speaking, where we no longer make late night host decisions based on old people? This has always confused me. The people I know in my parents' generation are all asleep by 11. The people I know in my generation who watch late night TV watching something else until Conan or Ferguson comes on.

Scott Aukerman. http://www.ifc.com/shows/comedy-bang-bangHe's all the rage with the hip, younger generation and he already has a musical sidekick![Edited on April 5, 2014 at 10:59 AM. Reason : ....]

Louis CK called dibs like 2 years ago.
4/5/2014 11:14:13 AM
colbert is a fantastic interviewer, would watch
4/5/2014 1:01:49 PM
4/5/2014 7:59:40 PM
why the hell would they hire Janet Jackson?she hasn't been relevant since the Super Bowl titty thing
4/5/2014 8:40:43 PM
I've thought H. Jon Benjamin and Aisha Tyler would make great cohosts for a talk show for a while.
4/5/2014 10:54:14 PM
^yessssssssssLANA!

aisha tyler is annoying.
4/6/2014 12:11:26 PM
according to the thread title, The Who will replace him
4/6/2014 12:15:04 PM
Aisha Tyler would be a TERRIBLE late night host. her podcasts are interesting because of the subjects, but she is a horrible, way too personal and chummy interviewer for late night.

aaaaaaaaaaand it's ColbertI sure will miss Stephen Colbert
4/10/2014 12:14:07 PM
I will miss Colbert the character but am very excited for Stephen Colbert.John Oliver would have been a shoe in for Colbert's spot, but his Last Week Tonight on HBO starts up this month#CancelColbert kinda came true![Edited on April 10, 2014 at 12:20 PM. Reason : ]

4/10/2014 12:20:10 PM
called it.
4/10/2014 12:24:34 PM
Nice, good for him. It had to be hard as fuck staying in character every day for all those years
4/10/2014 12:49:42 PM
Step One: Find someone funnier than Fallon.Success.
4/10/2014 5:54:21 PM
Man Stephen Colbert must just be a huge cultural blind spot for me, never found him funny but EVERYBODY loves him. Him and Tosh
4/10/2014 7:35:11 PM
^^ Fallon puts on a hell of a show. He's not that funny in a stand-up comedian guy kinda way, but the show as a whole is awesome.
4/10/2014 10:26:13 PM
i never watch the colbert report, and i don't really know what he's like outside of that or when he was on the daily show. did he do stand up when he was younger? from what i've seen i think he'll do a good job as an interviewer. it'll be interesting to see how he handles having bits and all that. i think he'll pull solid musical talent too.
4/10/2014 10:32:30 PM
Colbert's background is improv and sketch comedy. He did some SNL stuff and worked on the short-lived Dana Carvey show, but the key things are his late '90s Comedy Central series. If you haven't seen all 30 episodes of Strangers with Candy and all 12 episodes of Exit 57, go watch them now.[Edited on April 10, 2014 at 10:47 PM. I don't know how I feel about this. The Colbert Report is my favorite late night show. The satirical aspect is what makes him not come off preachy like Stewart. I'm sure he'll be successful at this though.
4/10/2014 11:24:56 PM
I'll miss his CR character, but I'm sure I'll enjoy this new chapter too.
