another day, another mass shooting in a gun-free zone.

it sure does make tons of fucking sense that people check out machine guns from base armories every day, take them out to their cars, and then drive unsupervised to the range every single day, for decades on end without incident...but you can't keep your lawfully concealed handgun in your glovebox (or on your person) on base.

by the way, not only is this the 2nd mass shooting aboard Ft Hood, it's right on the heels of the Norfolk shooting, which was itself 1 day after the 1-year anniversary of the Quantico shooting.

Yes gun free zones are totally the reason we have mass shootings

How often do mass shootings have to happen in this country until someone finally does something about it? And lol at the metal detector, armed guards everywhere solution or the everyone should carry a gun on them at all times solution

^^^I wouldn't say they're a "cause", and I don't think it's the only factor of influence, but in the last 20 years, there have been 50-ish mass shootings, and all but one have been in a gun-free zone.

^^ not suggesting that everyone should be armed all the time. I'm suggesting that people who can legally carry most other places, and are extremely statistically safe, many of whom carry weapons for a living, anyway, should be allowed to carry on base, as they were up until the early 90s.*

[Edited on April 2, 2014 at 9:27 PM. Reason : * at the discretion of the base commander]

It's just perverse that you would come in here with your diatribe about how you are personally inconvenienced after yet another mass shooting. How about no one gives a shit.

It would be awfully inconvenient to get fucking shot/robbed/attacked/etc and not be able to defend myself.

what's perverse is your interpretation of that statistic. correlation isn't causality, i know...and maybe i'd say your viewpoint is valid if it was half of the mass shootings...but when the record is on the order of 50-1 over the course of 2 decades, and the downside of my suggested policy is extremely minimal? I can only view your argument as completely nonsensical.

Can't imagine my own fellow soldiers being allowed to carry weapons during a work day, other than LEO or MPs. That would solve little to nothing. Crazies are crazy and do crazy things in crazy ways.

CNN Stating he wore "battle fatigues?" and carried a "semi-automatic handgun"

basically the army uniform...wtf are battle fatigues...and Im not aware of any handgun made after 1940 has not been semi automatic.

^^i'm not saying that everyone should or that everyone should be allowed to.

i'm saying that the authority should be delegated like it used to be. Base CO can set the policy. If the base CO allowed it, presumably subordinate commanders could still be more restrictive. In other words, a base CO could allow it, with guidance given to tenant commands. A unit CO could then allow, say, staff NCOs and officers who are already licensed CCP holders to carry.

^ umm, revolvers are, in normal parlance, not referred to as "semi-automatic". There are also a few single-shot or break-action handguns, although they're usually sort of oddities.

[Edited on April 2, 2014 at 10:36 PM. Reason : ]

[Edited on April 2, 2014 at 10:37 PM. Reason : but yes, saying that the soldier was wearing his uniform is not noteworthy]

having been involved in a robbery in my life, I'm glad that I'm not a gun person, because there is absolutely no way it wouldn't have gotten messy for everyone involved had another gun been present

a few bucks and some canceled credit cards aren't worth getting shot over

I reckon most of the time during a robbery the victims/bystanders carrying don't pull it out. I'm pretty sure it's because people that need a gun to feel safe are too chickenshit to actually use it.

Just miles from your doorstep, hundreds of men are given weapons and trained to kill. The government calls it the "army", but a more alarmist name would be The Killbot Factory.

I'm talking about a robbery, preformed by a crackhead who already gives zero fucks

of course that doesn't compare to anything that happens in the military

my position is that attempting to pull a gun on someone who already has a gun in your face is more than likely not going to work in your favor, especially considering how little you're losing (and what you'll usually get back)
