Do you ever consider that people can't see through your gas guzzler when you pull up next to people trying to turn?

you know you are driving a real truck when you don't step on the dimmer switch because the lights might go out.

SUVs have their place.

I just hate that the entire Crossover SUV industry exists purely because of women's irrationality.

It's not just women. I've heard countless dumb motherfuckers say they drive a truck/SUV because "it's just physics" with regards to the effects of a crash between a small vehicle and a large one. They are completely ignorant of the engineering aspects that go into a small vehicle with a great crash rating and take no interest in the crash avoidance capabilities of small cars. I suspect most of the "women's irrationality" that you're talking about is just them repeating what their dumbass husband thinks is best for them.

Does this make me less sexist or more?

(In reality, I think these people want what they want because they are influenced by marketing campaigns and their peers; thus they make up dumbass reasons to explain their illogical choices, but whatever.)

teg just hates crossovers. but I think his point is that the general design of the crossover is the bastardization of a few more purposeful vehicles combined

I would never say such a thing. Is a crossover safer than a station wagon or sedan? No it's not. I don't have children so my perspective is a bit different but I would never want to transport any future children in a vehicle that's more likely to flip over (compared to a sedan).

Add in that most crossovers are barely 2-3 inches taller than contemporary sedans and it's really just a dumb false image thing going on...

GD it I feel like this thread was created to personally troll me

isn't a crossover the perfect solution for a person who really should have a sedan but wants a higher view and higher seats (and the easier access that comes with higher seats)? they are just taller cars, they are perfect for that. it's dumb when people who need cars buy SUVs, but crossovers make sense.

My truck has a better sight line than any sedan or wagon. Therefore it is safer and better.

And I can haul stuff in it.

And if you drive responsibly and not like you are in a sports car, driving a truck/suv is incredibly safe. Everyone I know who has wrecked their shit has also shown a tendency for aggressive driving and careless mistakes.

I fucking hate SUVs for one simple reason: I CAN'T SEE AROUND THEM. I like to see where I'm going when I drive, not just cruise along behind a giant hunk of metal that blocks the central 90 degrees of my view

for me, driving an SUV/giant truck is like standing up at a football game/movie, just so that your experience is better, and to hell with the people behind you

(unless you've got some compelling reason for one...you're hauling shit on a regular basis, or you have lots of kids)

I don't pull all the way up at an intersection if I think it will block someone in a lane next to me, assuming I can still safely see the oncoming traffic. Now, if I'm blocking your view and you're behind me, that means you are too damn close and you can go fuck yourself. I hate people who ride my ass, and would love to see them pass me and wipe out or get pulled over. I still really like to have a rear facing paintball cannon in the back of my truck for these asshats.

^. ^^

I'm not saying I'm riding on you people's asses

I'm saying that, regardless of whether I ride close or I keep my distance, there's this big metal cube blocking my view. So I have a much worse view of the road, and cannot see a great deal of the stuff which, if I were driving behind an ordinary car, I'd be able to see

and that sucks. and I don't think it should be inflicted on people without good reason.

^^so are you suggesting that because you like driving cars and not larger vehicles, that we (truck and suv drivers), who for the most part utilize the extra size and power these vehicles provide, should give up what we have these for? Just because you dont like it? Should we get rid of big-rigs and construction equipment too? Not trying to bea dick, im just trying to understand your rationale here.

but not nearly enough...not as much as I'd like to see, and not nearly as much as I'd see if you were driving a car

^^
my beef is mostly with people who drive SUVs/huge trucks because they are safer, or because they provide a better view.

mothers with multiple children, or people who cart around large loads on a regular basis, have legit reasons for driving enormous vehicles, and I don't grudge them. (Of course, I can't tell why a random stranger is driving a huge SUV...but this is how it works in theory, and in my principles.)

For the same reason, I don't bitch about gigantic trucks on the highway, though I hate riding behind them.

Quote :
"because you like driving cars and not larger vehicles,"

it's not a matter of "liking." I can't really afford to drive a gigantic vehicle with poor gas mileage. And even if I could, I probably wouldn't, because I don't have a good practical reason to, and I wouldn't want to inflict my SUV on others without good cause.

I'd like to try to see you haul 2 yards of mulch in a crossover.

I have a Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Honda Accord. The Honda is way more fun to drive and I generally do not have problems getting around intersections in it.

If I was in a wreck I would probably rather be in one of the larger vehicles, especially if it was with a deer or something.

if they need to haul 2 yards of anything than they wouldn't otherwise be buying a sedan. read what i posted and try again.

Utility trailer? They cost like $500, you can get a permanent license plate for them for $70 or so, and they cost next to nothing to maintain. Very few people need a pickup truck these days. I understand if you insist on lugging around an unused bed so that you can haul mulch once every two years though.

I never thought very highly of SUV's till my brother bought an old Expedition cheap. We have used it a lot as a farm vehicle and as a tool hauler in the woods for forestry work. It does well on muddy logging roads, and we can fit a large amount of tools in it while being able to keep them dry. It also has the same towing ability as a half ton truck, so it is pretty useful and the leather seats, electric windows, cd player, air conditioner, etc... are nice to have.

I wanted a used pickup truck but then I found out I can get a used full size suv on the same frame and towing capacity for half of what those trucks sell for. It has fold flat seats in the back so I can fit a ton of shit in there, just not like a load of mulch...but that is what utility trailers are for.

^ uhh, I'm amazed that most people make it out of their garages or driveways every day without causing a catastrophic collision. Damned if I'm gonna trust their abilities or judgment on anything.

ehhhhhh...I think that's probably really optimistic.
