DO WANT
3/11/2014 3:55:08 PM
request that service!
3/11/2014 4:13:38 PM
I only want the internet of somethings.
3/11/2014 5:13:26 PM
Fucking money. Can't wait for this to roll out.

Guys read carefully on this. Unless you are a business and want to pay for a fiber line, they are not Google and giving you a actual fiber. They want to do wireless "last mile". So you highly will not get gig fiber to your home.Really all they did was build a statewide fiber backbone. And want to offer last mile service, but not as fiber for most places.
3/12/2014 8:43:13 AM
good point. That said, if they plan to offer "gigabit speeds" as the article states, I wouldn't care much if the layer 1 is fiber, copper, or RF, as long as I got reliable, consistent service. especially if my alternatives are crime warner and uverse.

Good for Shelby. But I doubt it will lure businesses to Cleveland Co. That place is an absolute shithole.Even folks from Gastonye look down at the Shelby.

^^Actually they are just leasing off of MCNC. MCNC has been building it out. They are simply renting that and reselling it. Not holding my breath on these guys, but any competition is fine by me.
3/12/2014 10:38:07 AM
I tried to inquire about leasing fiber off MCNC back when they were still doing construction. Talk about a clusterfuck of of a cagey industry. No one wants to tell you anything about who owns what or where because of all the agreements and peering and reselling.Granted I didn't really know as much as I thought I did, but I did research and was like ok so there's fiber buried like 5 feet from my building and I want it. PS: it's not that easy.

Yea I never looked at the exact path of the fiber, but after your post I wanted to check it out. After checking their Google Maps file, I found that MCNC has fiber running right beside my apartment complex. Same goes for one coworker who lives in Chapel Hill and another in Durham. Too bad we can't buy network service from them directly. Maybe that is a good sign for getting connected when RSL starts service.

Lotta people are worried about this with Google fiber, that if there are "options", then Google might now care to play ball any more.
3/12/2014 3:23:02 PM
Google offers gig for $70 and internet, TV, and phone for $120...I doubt google will run away. They want to run FTH, too.I think google is interested in this market for what it is: a highly educated area with boom tech industry. They want in.Also, if rst runs fiber the neighborhoods to suit their wireless nodes... Google may just buy them. See: provo. Then either do FTH, or adopt the wireless model as a new implementation strategy for google fiber, enabling them to research better/faster ways to deploy in other cities.[Edited on March 12, 2014 at 5:18 PM. I live in Wake Forest, but I doubt I will sign up. Sounds so sweet though. Are they doing any promos?

Too bad Net Neutrality was shot down

If you sign the survey via the town of wake forest, they may offer more beta testers. We are the first beta testers for the triangle...

So is this related to the gigabit fiber service Raleigh is about to get through AT&T?
4/21/2014 8:00:20 PM
AT&T is bs. It's 300 up down which is nice but it's not ggbit. "Coming later" for real gig
4/22/2014 11:26:27 AM
Saw this gem todayhttp://www.dslreports.com/forum/r28861354-TWC-Raleigh-Wake-Forest-now-bonding-6-channelsWhat this means is TWC might be upgrading to 100down. Up will need more channels. Ive got it in S Wake County. Ive heard rumors in other parts (not NC) that if you are on a 50/5 plan, you will get upgraded for free...

North State Communications in High Point/Greensboro. 80/30 for $45/month (for the 1st year, $55/month 2nd year, $65/month 3rd year). Their base speed is 30/30 for ~$35/month. Also supposedly releasing gigabit fiber by the end of this year to their fiber customers:http://northstate.net/blog/03182014-1152/north-state-bring-gigabit-internet-service-areas-piedmont-triad-region-northWith my TWC bill perpetually spiraling out of control and a flyer hung on my doorknob for North State, I decided to look into them. They're a local ISP for the High Point area, with a few outlying communities and part of the southern tip of Greensboro. The customer service rep was very nice, not pushy at all, didn't try to up-sell me. I signed up for their service and they came by to install it a few days later. They already had fiber running on my street so they just ran a fiber line to a junction box they installed at my house, and then ran a fiber line directly to my living room.I've only had them for about a month so far, but no issues at all. Very fast.[Edited on April 30, 2014 at 11:51 AM. Reason : ]

^ States that ban this will ignore any FCC rulings which will require stupidly expensive litigation to get anything built.^^ Dat upload [Edited on May 1, 2014 at 8:49 AM. Reason : dat upload]
