I just thought that I could give some credence to my username by distributing some of my music for TWW to rip apart and hate. There is just one song here now, but I should have another 2 added by Tuesday.

https://soundcloud.com/myvitruvianman/meet-me-in-hamburg

I would really appreciate any feedback. Obviously, when you make your own music you put a lot into it to the point that it becomes an obsession, and having feedback from the outside world is crucial toward its development.

Thanks!

^^Thanks man for the tip. Yeah, I have/had one on it, but I just don't have the equipment to record two tracks at once. I actually pulled this off using a mac and a decent but not great mic.

I also did not have the time for multiple tracks. But, you really can't hear the Banjo that well this way.

^^Thanks for the support

I like the way that I do it a bit better, but I experimented with that and lots of Scruggs style. I don't stcik to one style though, but I just wanted to do something differnet. It is kind of like travis picking but on a banjo, this tract does not really bring it that well becasue I did not have the banjo plugged in. But it is just a demo.

Uploaded a new song. This one features Scruggs style picking and is about a trip to Bonnaroo.

Hopefully you enjoy

It needs a bridge about what you're missing out on at bonnaroo instead of one of the repeats of the refrain. i like the chords at the beginning... maybe they could come back in there a couple times and break up the picking. All in all, i think i like your other song better.

I would like to make a demo tape of about five or six songs including these two. I just need to find the most affordable way to get the type of producing quality that people have these days. Your average guy playing to empty stands at a farmers market will have a completely polished CD.

I don't have anything close to that.

Yeah, I know. But I think that if ihad the proper time and resources I could polish that up.

But yeah, any tips on that would be great. I never took a lesson at all.

I like this. Generally pleasant. Agree that you need to tighten up the singing because your pitch wanders a bit.

Thanks, I am fine with that if it is the major problem. I have been practicing on keeping pitch and it has improved some since I first started. ´Got any recording tips?

I have done some single mic recordings of vocals and acoustic guitar. They turned out awful. I wish I could help you. Good luck.

You said you have a Mac and a mic. That's all you need. GarageBand has all the functionality required for high quality recordings of this nature.

It takes a lot of experience to mix it correctly. Often times tracks are slpiced in and out from different takes to get the best cut, and it can be a load of work for a noob.

I like it. Of the two, I prefer meet me in hamburg...that one had me nodding along by the end. Definitely need to work on your pitch, but the fundamentals are solid.

Ahh, thanks for the comments man. I put those two up there because they differ a lot in the style that the banjo is played. I am trying to figure out which works out best so that I don't have to stray too much from finger picking, because then I might as well just use a guitar.

This kind of motivates me to put another 5 or 6 songs up if I can ever record them.

maybe the lyrics are the issue with the bonnaroo song. try these on for size

Oh my wife won't let me go up to Bonnaroo. She says I've got responsibilities, my young son needs me, and there's just too much to do. The roof's caving in and the yard's on fire, but I'm singing songs about a flat tire, my wife won't let me go up to Bonnaroo.

Ohh my wife won't let me go up to Bonnaroo, She says we're too broke and my job's a joke, there's not much I can do. She spent my last euro so I can't go, so I guess I'll stay here and play my banjo, and piss her off by singin' songs 'bout not wanting to say I'm sorry!

He guys, I posted two new songs that I recorded a while ago, but just recently plugged into Logic and had them "produced". Since I got a lot of good feedback from the last go around, I would really appreciate any additional help: especially to some of those posters that gave some good tips for recording and mixing!

If your time is limited, I am personally a big fan of Cooler than Paul Rudd, I think that it has some potential.

regarding the thread or the music?

I understand how it may look, but you have to understand that it can be difficult to get feed back sometimes. So, I find it useful to just put it out there and if somebody is interested then they can give it a try. Personally, I love listening to music that is not "polished" yet, because oftentimes the polishing takes away something key.

Whooaahh, thanks bro, thanks for the encouragement.

The problem is that the music industry in a way controls what kind of music the masses are exposed to. Because of this, amazing talents (such as Townes Van Zandt) go unnoticed until somebody famous picks up their song or (more likely in todays world) a very keen director will put it in a movie. So, a lot times you can stumble upon amazing stuff that just does not get any exposure, which means that putting more things out their for people to stumble upon can only be a good thing.

I definitely think that this is one of the better ones that I have recorded to date. Also, it is a train song for people that are into that sort of thing.

I listened to that last song. Its pretty cool man. Your banjo playing is pretty dope. I listened to some of your other songs as well and it sounds like you've definitely improved your recording technique quite a bit. I'm not sure if you did a separate vocal track, but it still sounds like its all live which is essential IMO for folk/bluegrass.
