http://editorial.autos.msn.com/2015-jeep-renegade-first-look?icid=autos_5379Appears to be a 'neat little shitter' even though it's a Fiat 500L with a jeep grille and teensie lift kit. I'd rock it as a dd; neat alternative to the small-car lineup[Edited on March 5, 2014 at 4:26 PM. Reason : -]

WTF,why are they branding this as the renegade? thats an absolute kick in the nuts to the oldschool renegade styling.
3/5/2014 4:30:19 PM
While that is true, I look at it as an alternative interpretation to 'renegade'.... not my cup of tea entirely, but it's a neat package.- Turbo!- selectable 4wd t-case and center differential- removable roof panel- decent interior styling[Edited on March 5, 2014 at 4:33 PM. Reason : -]
3/5/2014 4:33:28 PM
i really like it and expect it to do well

^As do I. I honestly feel it's got more guts than the Compass and Patriot - those are some soulless vehicles. To me, it's a modern day version of:
3/5/2014 4:46:49 PM
I like it. Jeep has to have a vehicle in this class (one of the fastest growing segments) and the patriot was not cutting it. I don't necessarily "get" all of the design but overall I like it.The addition of a low-range puts it in a class of its own in this segment as far as capability goes. If you take a look at soft roaders around the world they are pretty popular but the US hasn't had one with a low range since Suzuki XL7? Suzuki sidekick? I dunno but we've never gotten many of them. Take a look at subaru foresters in Australia (available with low range there) and some of the expedition-type adventures they get into (they also get rav4s with a 50/50 locking transfer case, Fiat Pandas, Suzuki Jimneys, etc).Anybody know how much it's supposed to cost?
3/5/2014 6:07:37 PM
God jeep has gone to hell.
3/5/2014 7:58:14 PM
I had hoped the Compass would die a quiet death and not be replaced. So much for that idea. Yes, this has somehwat more macho styling, and a usable low range, but it also has the ground clearance of a wiener dog.
3/5/2014 10:40:36 PM
Truth is with the brand wide mpg averaging they have to have something like this to boost their numbers or else they get into trouble. This in my opinion. Is the most respectable way they could do so.It can still go off road and it still looks like a jeep. It's better than a flipping neon with a crossover body being called a jeep.

Keep in mind the rubicon trail is just an un maintained road.
3/6/2014 10:51:45 AM
keep in mind that i'm assuming you are intelligent enough to understand and agree with my point[Edited on March 6, 2014 at 10:56 AM. Reason : was I incorrect in that assumption?]
3/6/2014 10:53:18 AM
^I agree with you, so long as you acknowledge that the difference in considering ground clearance on a solid-axle vehicle is a different metric - you can drive ( or drag) over an obstacle rather easily on a solid axle vehicle that would hang an independent suspension vehicle with the same ground clearance.

Independent suspension vehicles the low point is usually the belly... Not the axle.Solid axle vehicles usually the axle is the low point and usually are protected by the tires they are attached. While my jeep only has 16" of ground clearance it's break over angle and approach angle are hundreds of times better than an independent suspension vehicle with similar ground clearance.
3/7/2014 2:37:43 PM
^^^ for sure, my point is that it's more than enough clearance for what it is and is the most capable in its class
3/7/2014 2:44:20 PM
word, we're on the same page.this fucker is growing on me.
3/7/2014 3:00:48 PM
Yeah I already told my wife we are trading the Kia in of they bring the version with a manual.[Edited on March 7, 2014 at 3:05 PM. Reason : .]

After the newness wears off I look forward to some "buggy" builds. Will be fun, and comical, to watch them get dragged into (and hopefully out!) of some places they weren't meant to be.[Edited on March 7, 2014 at 3:34 PM. Reason : I wonder if an ATV winch would be strong enough?]
3/7/2014 3:25:55 PM
Boogity.
3/7/2014 3:34:00 PM
3/7/2014 4:14:21 PM
Why do they do that lame shit...
3/7/2014 7:20:17 PM
I kind of like it.
3/7/2014 8:50:53 PM
might be the replacement for my wife's mini cooper.FWIW I have a patriot for work and it's been outstanding for a $17k 4x4. Had to bang around in it during the winter storms here lately and it's very sure footed and it's not given much trouble in the last 80k miles (knock on woo)
3/8/2014 6:03:19 PM
you people are crazythis will be another piece of shit like a Liberty, Compass, or Patriot
3/8/2014 6:19:45 PM
beh, time will tell.
3/9/2014 11:36:59 AM
What's the word on the Renegade??
7/11/2015 8:06:13 PM
I've seen a handful around... much larger than I expected. Saw one parked beside a Dodge Journey today and it's taller (albeit with roof rack).
7/11/2015 9:05:07 PM
A buddy parked his XJ next to one and said they looked the same size. We googled the dimensions and:XJWB. 101.4inL. 167.5inW. 69.4inH. 63.8inCurbW. 3357RenegadeWB 101.2L. 166.6W. 71H. 66.5inCurbW. 3490Pretty similar in a lot of ways. I didn't realize it was quite that big.also:[Edited on July 12, 2015 at 2:13 PM. Reason : Renegade has 1/2 the cargo capacity with seats folded though - spare tire + sheet and safety stuff?]
7/12/2015 2:08:00 PM
i like the looks of it
7/12/2015 4:29:47 PM
Yeah, XJ was "mid-sized." Nowadays, a "small crossover" is even bigger.Par for the course. I wonder how many generations you'd have to go back before a 5-series is smaller than the current 3-series. Hell, I wonder if some of the older 7-series are smaller than the current 3.
7/12/2015 4:52:21 PM
Nice Fiat.
7/13/2015 8:52:20 AM
yep... best looking fiat 500L in existence. not sure if i trust tho...
7/13/2015 9:25:27 AM
i like everything except the taillights
7/13/2015 12:06:06 PM
Saw one for the first time this morning. Looks odd in profile, too much front overhang for the almost none in back. Not bad overall though.
7/16/2015 12:16:02 AM
Yeah hard to avoid front overhang when you're using a pedestrian FWD platform with the engine hanging over the front axle.
7/16/2015 8:39:43 AM
Its hard to care about offroad things like overhang knowing its a fiat...
7/16/2015 9:04:35 AM
Really the only good thing about this "Jeep" is that it's not a Compass or Patriot. If ever there were a vehicle that was so bad it's manufacturer deserved to go into bankruptcy...
7/16/2015 1:07:47 PM
That would be lifted neons?
