Washington just gave a better pre-game interview than all of CJ Leslie's interviews combined despite it being right after the Syracuse heartbreaker. Plus, he sounds like a leader. That by itself means he deserves a thread.

^ his pre-game interview is what inspired me to make this thread. But. http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=641047

Damn Kyle. Making me look like an ass.

Had a solid game against VT. Apparently he has a killer work ethic...so it will be interesting to see how much he can improve from his freshmen to sophomore year in terms of beefing up and improving his already solid range of skills.

Reminds me of Deshawn Painter with his shot selection and propensity to shoot whenever he touches the ball. The big difference is that I don't cringe whenever he gets the ball.He should be a beast for us in the coming years. Definitely appreciate.
2/24/2014 9:54:38 AM
I hope so. Although I fear he will pull a Cedric Simmons on us.
2/24/2014 10:24:29 AM
You mean leave after his sophomore year right when he was starting to become a dominant post guy? They're also completely different players. So try and come up with a worse comparison.
2/24/2014 10:48:57 AM
yeah, he and simmons aren't remotely the same type of player.cedric simmons literally killed people when he blocked the ball. literally.both of them are/were fun to watch, but for entirely different reasons.[Edited on February 24, 2014 at 11:47 AM. Reason : also i'm pretty positive washington isn't going pro after next year.]
2/24/2014 11:46:45 AM
well.. They're nearly identical in size and play the forward position and struggled with consistency (as most young players do). I don't think it's that drastic of a stretch to compare them. Yes, they have their different strengths. Dominant? Simmons had exactly 3 double-doubles his entire career, all in his sophomore season. What I was alluding to was Simmons left prematurely. He left a lot of us wondering what could have been if he had stayed. I think he had a lot more developing to do, and I think his NBA career supports that, as he sort of fizzled out. He left us really thin for Lowe's first season.

Little Head Ced also had a horrendous family situation if I remember correctly. I think he grew up sleeping on a mattress on the floor of a doublewide. And unlike UNC, State can't get away with funneling cash, jobs, and free/cheap luxury rental homes to families of poor players so he did what he had to do to get his family a little help.

Simmons was also more athletic and strictly low-post. Washington can hit the mid-range jumper and can handle the ball well for a big man (pretty decent passer as well). Simmons was a straight up center and Washington is a stretch 4.They're just not similar players.
2/24/2014 12:39:36 PM
Wait, do people actually think Washington is good enough to go pro next year?
2/24/2014 12:40:57 PM
i don't know.this thread has took a turn to dumb town.i really like washington. he and anya alternate as my favorite freshman this year, but he isn't going pro anytime soon.
2/24/2014 12:47:52 PM
i don't think anyone is suggesting that he would go pro anytime soon, but he will definitely be an asset to this team if he keeps developing his mid range jumper.
2/24/2014 12:53:02 PM
Good Lord, I'm not trying to compare them skillwise. They're similar enough though. Simmons did come in higher touted than Washington. Why wouldn't he go pro? Of course he's not good enough to go pro yet. He's got size and some good skills for a big and shows promise for the future. But we all the know the NBA loves snatching up younger bigs with size when they still have more developing to do. Obviously Warren is the star this season. After this season we're losing both Warren and a big in Vandy. Freeman is a 4-year workhorse. Anya probably still has a season of conditioning to go. And we'll see how Abu does as a freshman. Perfect time for Washington to step up and shine a little in the spotlight (Lewis will help make him look good), grab the attention of some NBA teams, and leave us before both he's ready and we're ready. What you people are going to do now is try to explain why he's not good enough to go pro, but you will be missing the point.

He will be, but he has got to learn to pass out of the post. I love the guy, but he jacks any and everything up without even thinking about passing.
3/14/2014 11:14:38 PM
Hoping he is hitting his jumpers today.
3/15/2014 9:23:15 AM
I don't want to take away his confidence, but maybe we should tell him not to shoot unless he's wide open in the post or there is less than 10 seconds on the shot clock. He has the tendency to kill possessions early in the shot clock. But love the effort!
