My parent's home caught on fire last Wednesday (everyone is safe) and I did not see a thread for this...I figure anyone with experience can chime in and give advice in case anyone experiences this as well.

They had insurance so the cleanup process is being done by a company in Fayetteville.

Everything is being handled by the adjuster and agent so far...we are really more or less just worried if the house will be a total loss or not...hoping it will be so we can demolish and rebuild.

anyone had experience with this type of thing?

That sucks man, Im sorry to hear that. My childhood home got damaged in the Raleigh 88 tornado. Hell, the whole neighborhood was wrecked. Most of the people chose to rebuild on the same lots.

If you have Farm Bureau Insurance just become a hermit.

our house caught on fire when i was in high school and had to be completely gutted and rebuilt. it took 4x longer than they said it would before we were able to move back in. the house was in fayetteville so there is a chance it is the same company handling your parents' cleanup.

01grad had a house fire a couple of years back while he was living in NYC and renting the place out.

Based on the damage, I assumed it was a total loss, but they did a ton of structural work and maintained the "bones" of the house. It still fits in with the neighboring houses (older ITB neighborhood), but everything is updated now.

I think he kicked in some extra cash and did a ton of upgrades that were now "convenient" based on the fire. I don't know who his insurance company was, but he did say they were way easier to work with than he would have thought.

So far, the insurance people have been fairly easy to work with. The adjuster i mean.

Ended up finding a GREAT deal on a camper so they are going to be staying in it for awhile till things blow over and they get rebuilt.

Just so odd going home and not having anywhere to stay...even a couch or a tv to watch.
