Always had a crush on these cars, even though I would never buy one...This is absolutely nuts. 1 owner, less than 1000 miles. Same. I will own a 3000GT VR4 one day.....one day... that or an older NSX.....one day...

Didn't Specter have a 3000GT?I know of a friend of a friend who had one and evidently it was a serious POS. Good-looking cars though. I actually had a poster of the Stealth R/T on my wall when I was 11 or 12...

Damn, I want to know the story behind that first one.

Damn. That VR4 1in10 posted is tempting at that price. I wish the cars were more reliable. I heard that the turbos crap out at 40k typically.

get the later ones

My high school gf had a red automatic nonturbo 3000GT. We thought we were the shit cruising through the Cook Out drive through...

I thought it was odd that a unibody awd sports car weighed more than my unibody 4wd 4door jeep Cherokee.

The 2nd gen ones were more reliable. They had less problems with rod bearings and drivetrain issues.

I remember a kid at my HS getting one of these. I think it lasted like 1 month before he totaled it out. He got another one.... But it didn't have a turbo.

Somebody at my office has what appears to be a legit 3000GT Spyder. I did a triple take when I saw it.

Those are/were pretty impressive vehicles. I remember seeing one retract it's top at an auto show back in the day. Kickass.Heavy SOB though.

While I did like the look of these cars when they came out, they have not kept my attention.Too heavyreliability is questionable, at best.meh.

I've owned 2 of these, a first gen (92) and a 2nd gen (94). I have so much to say about them, I don't even know where to begin. Working on them is a nightmare as the engine bay is cramped and the two turbos, despite being tiny, are annoying to get to. As far as reliability goes, while not bulletproof, the 6g72 is a solid engine (they put them in Dodge Caravans, btw) that I'd say can comfortably hold a modest increase in power. Too much power or mistune and you'll spin bearings. I knew a guy (I think Ray knew him too) that had a 600hp VR-4 but that thing spent almost 90% of its life sitting in a parking lot.The main issues I have with that Stealth is that the early 1st gens have 5-speed trannies with 18-splines (versus 25-spline on later) and 2-bolt block (versus 4-bolt on the later cars). They're just not as beefy. Also, the '91s and '92s were the heaviest of all 3/S's. The 2nd gen became a bit lighter and the 3rd gens (97-99) shaved even more weight due to the removal of extras (4-wheel steering, active aero spoiler, active exhaust, electronic suspension). The blue '92 is very pretty but prices on these cars are extremely inflated IMO. I would not spend more than 5-6 grand on a 1st gen, even with low miles. My best memory from my '92 VR4 ownership was at an NCR HPDE at Rockingham, where my PS belt snapped on a turn and I decided to run the rest of the day with that 4000 pound beast without PS (i didn't have a spare and it didnt drive the alternator, so i was just like it 'fuck it'). Needless to say, it put hair on my chest. My worst memory? Google the 3000gt "click click start" issue. I found the fix after I had already sold the car but good riddance, she was annoying to work on. I spent more time working on it than driving it. I do miss my VR4, I loved the exhaust sounded with just gutted cats and I got compliments everywhere I went, mostly from older guys reminiscent of the 90's "Ferrari-pop-up headlights" look. If I could find the "magic" VR4 that didn't have any issues, I'd give this platform another try. But I'm too busy to devote entire weekends to car projects anymore.[Edited on January 21, 2014 at 2:55 PM. Reason : /rant]
