Fox News has been pushing the GOP agenda hard recently reporting definitively that the Benghazi incident was alqaeda. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/12/29/completely-false-sources-on-ground-in-benghazi-challenge-nyt-report/Nyt otoh is saying it was local militia. One of the sources for the nyt article was on the Sunday news shows reporting that it wasn't alqaeda unless you define alqaeda as any Islamist group that sympathizes with Bin Ladens ideas. From the few articles I've read, no one has alleged funding or planning from a central alqaeda group. It seems like the disagreement is purely semantic. NYT seems to be trying to clarify what is meant by alqaeda while Fox thus far seems content on maintaining unclear information, because clarity would undermine their related theme this was an Obama conspiracy. I guess time will tell (Maybe) what the truth is.

I guess claiming it's "Al Qaeda" gets a good rallying cry up to keep attacking the same people, whereas saying "it's not Al Qaeda" allows some to stick their head in the sand say "it wasn't an organized attack." To say it was Al Qaeda is just as naive as to say it was just a bunch of people pissed off by a video with no organization whatsoever (which seems to be the administration line, as well as what was reported today on Meet the Press). That's more than just a "semantic disagreement."]
