Joaquin Phoenix plays a loner who falls in love with his computer's operating system (Scarlett Johansson). One of the most fascinating movies I've seen in a long time

This is just a bit too far out there for me. I mean, if it was leading up to a human relationship, I think I'd go see it. I think it's an interesting idea and possibly has some meaningful commentary on today's/tomorrow's technology and human interaction with computers, but a man falling in love with his computer? No thanks.

^broaden your horizons a little, dude. you might enjoy it.i can't wait to see this
1/7/2014 3:22:38 PM
^^ dude, eggs can get fertilized without sperm. we men are obsolete. women merely tolerate us. when the women finally stop dealing with us, we're only going to be able to fall in love with our operating systems unless we become gay with our bros. this movie is a glimpse into the future. either that or it's what dating in the post-singularity will be like.

saw it, liked it. very original and enjoyable story on an emotional level. joaquin phoenix definitely gave a great performance. scarlett johansson's voice becomes increasingly more annoying without the body for eye candy.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, and I love Joaquin...but I'm not sure I'll be able to buy that someone would prefer Siri to a woman. We'll see...
1/13/2014 11:56:23 PM
^^ It's not.^ She's very different from Siri.

Wasn't this a Big Bang Theory episode?

Spike Jonze hasn't had a good film since He Got Game.]
1/14/2014 9:49:08 AM
^i can't tell if that was a joke. you never know around here.but regarding spike jonze, this is the first movie he's written and directed, and it was brilliant[Edited on January 14, 2014 at 10:17 AM. Reason : .]

He co-wrote Where the Wild Things Are.

I loved Being John Malkovich, he just directed, didn't write. Also he was hilarious in Three Kings as Conrad Vig"I don't really have a day job sir."So yeah I will be watching this one
1/14/2014 4:43:52 PM
it was ok. better than I thought it'd beI also have the urge to grow a mustache now after watching a close up of his face for two hours

very original and creative, and I agree phoenix did a great job. I'm surprised there was so little contribution to this thread. Although I think the movie was a little too long.
8/29/2014 11:22:19 PM
Is this the movie where Phoenix has a chance to bang Olivia Wilde, Rooney Mara and Amy Adams but stays home to stroke to his computer? Yeah I won't be seeing that one.
8/30/2014 10:36:16 AM
^^you should see the other thread^no

very slow for me. could have been the massive steak dinner i ate before i started watching, or the wine, but i ended up watching it in two parts b/c i was falling asleep. i didn't dislike it, but i don't think it's one i would sit down and watch again.dunno what it says about me as a person, but after he signed the divorce papers and began questioning his relationship with samantha was when i started to become interested. since the OS was intuitive, i took away from it that she was merely a reflection of himself and what he needed at the time. he was questioning his relationship with her but also trying to convince himself to stick it out, so samantha was the voice of him sticking it out.
9/1/2014 8:49:14 AM
I enjoyed this more than i thought i would, but my expectations were rock bottom. I feel like the OS's left to go form skynet.

good movie

All I could think about honestly is the software that was used and developed in this movie. Lord, if anything like comes to play in our generation, it will surely transform society in a way that dwarfs Facebook and the social media craze.

^I was referring to business and capitol. If a European power gets a hold of this technology and trademarks, then bye bye to the US reign at the forefront of the digital revolution.
