I liked the book and think it would make for an excellent movie.Hate him or not, Tom Cruise does great big budget action movies.Emily Blount is hot as fuck. That's enough for me to think this movie will be pretty good.

Yeah, worth checking out. It was surprisingly funnier than I was expecting.
6/7/2014 4:04:12 PM
Also recommend. Solid movie and I can not complain about seeing Bill Paxton around more lately.
6/7/2014 4:49:37 PM
There were a few times where I was really chuckling. "What the fuck were you thinking"
6/7/2014 5:23:31 PM
Would be interested to hear some thoughts on the ending. Won't post at this moment because of spoilers but I seem to have interpreted it different than what I've read online from how others thought it ended. It wasn't bad.
6/7/2014 9:08:30 PM
really liked the movie. don't have any complaints about it. i loved the self-aware humor and thought the alien life force was a novel concept and how the concept of time was altered was cool. Tome Cruise was awesome in the role as was Emily Blunt (between this, looper, and adjustment bureau, she's becoming a go-to scifi actress)as far as the ending is concerned, it was clearly the market research ending. i think it kind of dulled the character transformation tom cruise went through, but at the same time i was happy with the end result.
6/8/2014 7:55:01 AM
I didn't care for the ending that much, but I can't discuss it without spoilers so I'll wait.
6/8/2014 11:14:59 AM
dude, only pussies complain about spoilers. Plus, it has been shown scientifically that knowing the spoilers does not change one's experience in the movie. So spill it bro
6/8/2014 1:17:37 PM
Plot info/spoilers/DON'T READ/ETCI feel like the ending broke the rules of the movie. Character has a power that allows him/her to restart the day upon death, character loses power, character dies and in the interest of having a "happy" ending it restarts where the move began. But this time there are no aliens. It doesn't make sense and took away from a good movie. I'd of rather them all been dead. So essentially you sit there for 2 hours, and nothing really happens.
6/8/2014 1:30:24 PM
Spoilers.......I've read some online and I interpreted the end a lot different than most. I took it as cruise ends up with the time power after he merges with the omega. He then goes back to when he was in good standing with the military. The Omega knows now cruise has the power/capability to destroy it. So instead of staying and fighting the "flash" or explosion or whatever the the general talks about in his news conference wasn't the Omega being destroyed but the Omega retreating and leaving earth. It left because it knew cruise would destroy it with the day resetting power since he proves he could do it once. That leaves behind the lifeless alien army because the omega isn't there to control it anymore. Most seem to be assuming that the Omega is destroyed when the general is talking on the TV but I took it as the Omega leaving earth to save itself as it knows the future and in the future it dies.
6/8/2014 2:13:00 PM
Response to SpoilersThe general says there was an explosion and everything was dead. We can all just agree that the end was pretty bad.
6/8/2014 2:42:45 PM
^^ Good interpretation.
6/8/2014 3:37:13 PM
The ending was a bit of a cop out, but I still enjoyed the movie overall
6/8/2014 4:00:49 PM
I agree not great but the way I thought of it was only way it wasn't an ending that makes no sense.I don't remember the general saying an explosion and everything dead, thought he said something like a flash of energy or something like that.
6/8/2014 4:38:37 PM
spoliers and whatnotyeah i believe it was an energy surgecage got the ability to get do-overs from the alpha's blood. after he killed the omega, the "blood" or whatever intertwined itself with him. now if the alpha can give him the power to go back a day, why wouldn't the omega's powers creep in to him in some way? if the omega could choose when to reset time without actually getting killed, why wouldn't cage be able to then decide when to reset time? as he's flying in puts him in the position to be in london in good standing and able to find Rita easily. so it's actually him resetting to that point and the omega also deciding to get the hell out of dodge before it can get killed.
6/8/2014 9:16:09 PM
enjoyed the movie. agreeing on all emily blunt statements
6/8/2014 9:35:21 PM
Overall, it was good. It's a fun watch and surprisingly funny. The ending is the only part I didn't like. As someone else said, it was clearly a cop-out ending.I like the theory above about the omega leaving, but I don't think that works out. They said the organisms came on a meteor/asteroid, I think. Then they waited for the dominant species to attack it and just kept going back until it knew what they'd do and that's how it becomes dominate. There's no reason to think it can travel through space. Maybe it's just laying dormant? But I don't know, I think it was destroyed and it was just a less than stellar ending.
6/8/2014 9:42:47 PM
spoiler discussion^Agreed. I would like to think it left so the ending isnt quite as campy. How would you people have had the end play out? End it with his death? End trapped in that hole? When i read about the problem with the ending before I saw it, I expected there to be a clear cut way to improve on it but I don't really see it.
6/9/2014 9:00:31 AM
Spoiler DiscussionI'd like either it to end with them all dead, or it ends with the alien leaving, and the world resetting to a point before the aliens arrived. Or they could have added some plot material that explains why it would reset to the beginning of the movie. And yes Emily Blunt is fucking hot.
6/9/2014 9:23:37 AM
The easiest way to end it is to assume cruise gains the omega power he then resets to him in good military standing waking up on helicopter. A clip shows him walking into the generals office and making a statement like "I think I know a better way to end this." Next clip is the general saying on tv that there was an explosion, fight and victory in France by a small task force and the alien invasion is now being pushed back, implying cruise told him the Omega location(and the general agrees to try to kill it before the massive invasion).Last scene cruise walks into the room with the girl she asks if she has shit on her face movie ends.

6/9/2014 10:45:38 AM
Well done.
6/9/2014 11:41:40 AM
I don't know why people are having a hard time with the ending. By killing the first alpha cruise stole its respawn ability, we never see it on the beach again. It's dead for good. When the omega resets time it goes back about 18 hours, and this is a hard fixed point. Every death after will send you back to that point. When cruise loses the blood this set point is gone. When he kills the omega and absorbs it's blood the last thing is again an 18 hour reset, except this time like with the alpha cruise has taken the omegas respawn and it no longer exists. Since they killed the omega before the beach invasion cruise wakes up on the helicopter in london
6/9/2014 12:23:08 PM
^ that all does make sense. Personally, I missed the 18 hour thing. But you're absolutely right that they destroyed it at night, before the beach invasion which would have been at least a few hours later. So it was a set time period prior, then he would wake up earlier that time.
6/9/2014 1:06:03 PM
The 18 hour thing doesn't make sense because they make it to the helicopter and all that crap and he still resets after making it to the dam. Would have to assume that took a lot of time.
6/9/2014 4:06:50 PM
The first reset establishes a fixed point approximately 18 hours before the first death, all subsequent deaths reset to that point. This is the reason he always wakes up at that point. Consider it a save point in a video game. That's why even though he often dies well before he originally did in training he goes to that point, and later when he's lived hours after his original death time. It's really not complicated
6/9/2014 4:13:04 PM
6/9/2014 4:19:45 PM
I didn't mean it like that, I meant people had a hard time figuring out what happened. I'd have rather had an ending like the Japanese novel/manga the story is based on. Cage eventually has to kill Rita in order to break the loop because of the way the mimics work. He then continues fighting, essentially taking her place and gets the name "killer cage"
6/9/2014 4:27:01 PM
It's a dumb ending
6/9/2014 4:42:28 PM
It's an ending to appeal to a wider audience. I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it. At the same time this is a stand alone film, so they could have gone with the original ending. I don't really care if it takes in a load of money since there is no sequel riding on it
6/9/2014 4:49:22 PM
6/9/2014 5:03:38 PM
6/9/2014 5:13:53 PM
After cage replaces it, you never see the beach alpha again. You have to think of the alphas and the omegas tethering themselves to a point and when the reset they go back to that point in time. When the dying omega tries to reset to that point it accidentally sends cage back in its place because he's absorbed it's blood. It thus ceases to exist
6/9/2014 5:36:35 PM
So its assumed that the alpha at the dam and at the omega are different alphas.I don't remember seeing the beach alpha a 2nd time. Just other alphas probably in other locationsThe thought of the alpha and omega dying with the next reset not having them(being replaced?) is very interesting. I bet it's explained in the monologs with the scientist but I just didn't absorb it all.Very good editing too.
