The only nation on earth that doesn't execute monsters. Truly pathetic.

watched a documentary on netflix about death row last night. changed my perception on the whole thing actually, after they interviewed a guy who worked at a death prison and was with all of the inmates in their final hours.

Tell us more. What is your perception now? Has your stance changed? If so, what was it before and now. Why

We're around #5 in the world for criminal executions. The only countries that are ahead of us are Big Brother China and some muslim countries (Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia). Yemen and North Korea are pretty close too. We should strive to be more like these shining beacons of countries. 97 girly-men tiny-weiner countries have abolished capital punishment.

i was always a big proponent of the death penalty, but when you looked into this mans eyes, he looked destroyed. yes there are people that deserve to die but who are we to decide who does and doesnt deserve it. does killing them bring the people they killed back? no. does it really circumvent the countless murders that still occur, no. this dude came into the job as a huge death penalty supporter, and left against it. the guy was broken. if it does that to someones soul over time, what theyre doing isnt right.

Maybe if he was able to be at the scene of the crime and look into the eyes of the victims as the life was sucked out of their body, he would have a different perspective. That coin has 2 sides.

last time I looked, the death penalty was supposed to be a punishment. so if the people on death row are broken and destroyed, it's the worker's fault for feeling empathy for them and becoming broken himself. that is what they deserve, and I would expect no less. most of those sick fucks sit there and laugh and beat their meat dreaming about their crimes with no remorse; I wish they all could feel the horror they caused their victims before being put to an agonizing death

i just think people who go on killing sprees/commit crimes that warrant the death penalty do it with the notion that they're going to get killed by the state anyway if/when they get caught. maybe knowing they wouldn't die, and they'd be in a jail cell until the day they died they'd be less apt to commit those acts of violence.

I support the death penalty and a state's right to enforce the death penalty, but with the way our appeals process works, I think we are better off just abolishing it and letting these fuckers rot in prison than wasting millons in court costs.

The death penalty should act as a deterrent to committing violent acts, but it no longer serves that purpose in the US.

pretty much every study on death penalty as a deterrent shows that it has no deterrent effect on anyone other than the perp.

That said, I'd support the death penalty only in clear cut 100% certain cases where there is 0 potential doubt of guilt. Given the bureaucracy in our criminal justice system as well as the rampant abuse, I do not support capital punishment in the US.

You can never have 100% certainty, that's the main reason it should be abolished.
