who are they? How did you find out? do you treat them differently?I have never met anyone that (openly) has HIV or AIDS. I wonder what the percentage is of people living with it openly vs closeted

The "openly" part is important, because of this...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6szE_qmzavQ

seriouslyyour privilege is showing(that said, there's also nobody I know remotely closely whom I also know to be positive, mostly because I've never bothered to find out)

I always suspected that my upstairs neighbor had HIV. He was a street kid from DC who was sick all the time and very thin. And he coughed like a metronome. He always said it was from the cigarettes, but I think he knew he was sick with something.[Edited on October 14, 2013 at 9:24 PM. Reason : I always have to edit.]
10/14/2013 9:20:36 PM
how in the fuck is this related to privilege??
10/14/2013 9:21:23 PM
Well, now I know how to get under slappy1's skin.
10/14/2013 9:26:52 PM
aren't lewisje and slappy1 brother/sister?I remember some thread where she called him out for not showing up for work at her dad's company.Anyway, back on topic. Yes, I know somebody who has AIDs. He is very very sick and last time I saw him a year ago, he was rail thin and I could almost see his bones through his clothes. I saw a picture of him on FB the other day and it looked like he's doing better, put some weight back on and doesn't look like a pale ghost anymore,

I can only think of like seven people, period, whom I've known had AIDS (and this includes celebrities)I think AIDS, unlike cancer, is mostly prevalent in certain circles (hard partiers, heroin users, homeless) that I don't usually get too close to. I know quite a few gay people, but I don't think any of them has AIDS.Also, if I had AIDS, I don't think I would tell too many people. It would just queer all my relationships. ]
10/14/2013 11:01:42 PM
But your relationships are already pretty queered, right?Maybe the HIV/AIDS thing would shake things up for ol' JeffreyBSG.
10/14/2013 11:05:37 PM
a friend's dad died of it when I was about 15 or so. His dad was bisexual. I never really met his dad; though I did see him around school a few times with my friend at various functions or picking him up/dropping him off.My dad had a classmate from his very, very small HS who died of it way back in the early/mid 80s, I think. Never knew him; just heard my dad mention it. Apparently the dude was gay, and his family was fairly influential, at least locally or regionally or something, in the KKK.That is about the extent of my knowing exposure to that world.

^^hmm, getting AIDS as a means of improving my social life...it's a novel idea, I suppose. it's probably illegal to deliberately infect yourself with AIDS, thoughplus, if I had AIDS, I wouldn't be able to fuck any women ever again. and I like to think that I'll be able know that delightful experience again maybe I should knock myself on the head with a hammer until I become retarded. everyone <3s retarded people[Edited on October 15, 2013 at 12:03 AM. I know of three back home. One was open about it, and the other two we found out about because they were involved in a car wreck and EMS practically forced the first responders off the scene after seeing who it was. All three of them are in the same social circle, but I don't know if they were involved in anything more than being black and poor.I had a classmate in high school that died from AIDS; I think he got bad into drugs at some point.

YepI see no reason to ask them all of the dumb questions.
10/15/2013 7:51:38 AM
My stepmother's brother died from aids when I was young. My dad's current girlfriend's ex husband died from aids a few years ago. We knew that family for a long time, I babysat for them a couple times when my sister had plans. As a kid I was oblivious. I didn't know either of them as an adult, but I'd like to think I wouldn't have treated them any differently. Both were gay men.
10/15/2013 8:10:37 AM
dont niggers has aids? i dont know any though actually it's kinda stupid to be worrying about aids which is curable (effectively) when hepatitis C is 300X more communicable and the treatment is like 6 months of chemo type horibleness
10/15/2013 8:29:03 AM
not that i know of.
10/15/2013 11:47:58 AM
apparently my uncle was gay and died from aids...i didnt even know at the time..I was young. But like 3 years ago i was told this..(or maybe im imagining that I was told this)
10/15/2013 11:59:21 AM
The out of town guy in my FFL has it, Ted. It's cool though, his cocktail keeps him healthy and winning championships.
10/15/2013 12:08:58 PM
guy about 6-7 years older than me that i grew up going to church with.he's gay.i'm pretty sure he didn't have aids when we were kids.
10/15/2013 12:10:38 PM
Yes. Quite a few. But I use to volunteer heavily with the local HIV/AIDS outreach program. We did service coordination and ran a food bank for patients. Most of or clients were extremely secretive about their illness. We would sometimes lock down the office for some clients to come in without being seen. They were from all walks of life. I didn't treat them any differently than I would treat anyone else. But I do not know of anyone that I know in my personal life that has HIV/AIDS. I may feel differently if it was someone outside of the clinical setting. Good question.
10/15/2013 2:48:15 PM
but seriously, an ex-gf's gay uncle had it and died in San Fran in the 90s... that's all i can think of.

^^^ shit i bet we all know at least dozens of people with that. i think on the order of 80% or something like that have oral herpes, and I think about 1/4 have genital herpes (or maybe it's 1/5?), but most don't know they have it.
10/15/2013 10:42:38 PM
I have a few family members who have it and one uncle who died from it in like 1999.

Question:If you have HIV/AIDS and have sex with someone that has HIV/AIDS, is it possible to get more HIV/AIDS? or are you pretty much going to remain at your current HIV/AIDS level and it just naturally plays out either way?[Edited on October 16, 2013 at 5:30 PM. Reason : ]
10/16/2013 5:29:37 PM
You could get another strain.I assume you can have multiple versions of a virus in your body. But you aren't going to get "more" unless you think your penis is going to suck AIDS out of someone.Does that mean the person you fuck has less AIDS afterwards?
10/16/2013 5:31:40 PM
I think it's a legitimate question... there are dating sites out there for people with STDs so hivvies and herpderps can hook up with one another consequence free. (don't ask how i know)
10/16/2013 6:27:10 PM
So I knew this girl that slept with a friend not long after breaking up with a guy who found out soon after they broke up that he was HIV positive. She didn't bother to say anything about this to the friend and it led to the predictable drama. Thankfully the friend is ok, but that was pretty fucked up.

It's absolutely possible to have multiple strains of HPV (genital warts), so I guess it isn't too far of a leap to wonder if you can have multiple strains of HIV.And there are multiple strains of HIV.[Edited on October 16, 2013 at 11:53 PM. Reason : img]
