I read various post in here and other sites, and it feels like people are experiencing the apocalypse and losing hope on this team. This team is fine, it has enough talent to win 6 games and can still surprise a lot of people. Injuries and squad depth are the problem right now, but the biggest one that caused us to lose 2 games, possibly 3, has to be qb play. Pete is alright, but he is bringing the team down and has cost us all three games. Its not his fault we lost those games, but he sure as hell not won us any games this season, and with a better qb we could of won both games. The best offense we played has been Clemson, and if it wasn't for our defense we would have been stomped. Its safe to assume our defense is good and young at the back, and they allow at max 3 td/game. Our problem is that our offense can't score more than 3 at times, and is unreliable and inconsistent. The pass game is way below average considering the receivers we have, and our running game is lacking because our passing game is not a big threat, and our oline is our weakest link. All our problems will be solved if we have a good mobile qb who can avoid sacks, and run the football. Everything will open up, the deficiencies at oline will be eclipsed by the mobility and decision making of the qb. If Mitchell can play like many of us hope, this offense will pick up and quickly put yards and use more time, allowing our defense to rest and thus allowing even less td. We have good rb, good wr, great dline man, and young but good cb, we just need a qb to help us win games, instead of trying so hard not to lose games. The only problem arises if Mitchell isn't the qb that we saw the first 3 drives, or if he gets injured again. I know many of you feel like the whole team wins games, but we have seen time and time again that if the qb goes down the team is only as good as its backup ie NCSU Vs Rutgers, Redskins Vs Seattle, New England w/out Brady. The team doesn't lose games, buts its the Qb and Rb that win them, and we don't have Adrian Peterson.

I realize this thread is about NC State football being good... which They are not. Hear me out, maybe I can offer some insight.I am in outside sales, which is currently salary+commission, but will move into straight commission starting at the beginning of July 2010. I have been in this position since July 2009. I have competition from several direct manufacturing sales reps, large distributors, and local distributors. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of each:Direct Advantages: Immediate knowledge of new technology, no middle man mark up, one shipping bill (paid by manufacturer or buyer of goods), access to larger range of non-commodity items, control inventory, have access to many distributors that can effectively sell their goods which increases market share, and set prices of commodity they manufacture.Direct disadvantages: Typically have 1-3 sales reps per region (i.e. southeast, mid-atlantic, northeast, etc.) limiting the number of accounts they can successfully manage/cold-call, lack physical customer service or physical technical service available to or affordable for smaller users or altogether, are sometimes not trustworthy because they will go in behind their distributors that sell their commodity to one account in large quantities (i.e. they missed a big account, and have found out about it through a distributor selling their particular product) which leads to the distributor not selling their product anymore, have too many distributors selling the product ultimately driving the set price down through deviations, possibly rely on distributors to actually sell the product, and competition from other direct sources.Large distributor advantages: have access to other commodities that go hand in hand with other manufacturers (poor example- grocery stores sell milk as well as cereal), get direct pricing, many locations regionally or nationally easing the shipping burden of buyers with multiple locations, personal service either customer or technical, many sales reps that are able to cover a broader territory, access to multiple manufacturers of the same commodity allowing to keep prices in check, service programs that smaller companies can't offer and direct providers can't match in price or value, and experts of many many commodities as opposed to one or a few.Large distributor disadvantages: smaller local distributors creating price wars (think Michael Scott Paper Co vs Dunder-Mifflin), direct mfg's going in behind and stealing business, limited access to all of the mfg's (you won't find Harris Teeter name brands in Food Lion and visa versa), can't truly set prices because it's based on both supply and demand, territory management, and tough growth prospects in slower economies (this is true for direct as well really)Local distributor advantages: Typically a good ol' boy setting where the seller and the buyer know each other for years (this does happen at all levels, but mostly at the local level), local folks are right down the street and can be used in emergencies, if the local guy buys at high enough volumes then there is no shipping charge to the end user, and access to both direct mfg's and large distributors.Local distributor disadvantages: easily beaten in price, array of commodities, array of technology, lack of trained staff, low cash flow, etc etc etc. This is what I have noticed in my six months, I am sure there are plenty more that need mentioning. The way I am setting myself apart as a sales person is this: I go after the big accounts right now while I am new. The big accounts, if I land them, will take care of me while I am new and building a customer base. The money made off of those allows me to focus free time on smaller accounts that get me higher margins. I build up big accounts, I would like to have 5-10 of these, then get 20-30 medium accounts. If I lose 1 or 2 big accounts, the 20-30 medium accounts keep me afloat while I go after new big accounts. I don't really waste time on small accounts simply because they basically pay for breakfast or something really small.I will say this, if you can't get a big account in the first 6-8 months (assuming you have cash flow that you can ride this long) you could be in a world of trouble. If you can get one, it will really make going after the others a lot more enjoyable and less stressful. It's simply just very exhausting wasting any time on anything other than big accounts in the very beginning. You work just as hard on the medium sized accounts and see 1/3 to 1/36 of the money in my situation.[Edited on October 14, 2013 at 1:01 PM. Reason : K]

^^^ from a first year coach taking over a team that won only 7 games last year, lost the starting qb, is dealing with injuries, and depth issues...yeah. Did you expect a 9 win season? Don't get me wrong, I'm upset with what I've seen the last two games...but I don't think that's enough to completely write the season off and start complaining about a coach that's been here half of a season.
10/14/2013 1:53:34 PM
I'll be ecstatic if we can make it to a bowl. That and beating UNC are all we can hope for this year.

the unrealistic expectations of coaches are absurd in this day and age.

I have to say, it's been a long time since I've enjoyed NCSU football this little. It's been a long run of mediocre and sub mediocre play, but this season has just been completely awful. I fully expected this season to be horrid, but it's still not any fun to see it play out. That said, I'm still perfectly willing to give Doeren at least a few years before I start chirping at him, unless he shows himself to be completely inept like O'Brien did. He has to do something to address the defense though, anyone with eyes can see that we don't know what the fuck we're doing on that side of the ball.

Yes, Its gonna take time, a whole lot of precious time. Its gonna take patience and time, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it right child. I think the problem that people are having is that even with this pretty bad roster he inherited, and the injuries, there have been two games that State "should" have won and not only did they not win them, they got beat down pretty hard in both.
10/14/2013 2:47:32 PM
We haven't beaten WF in Winston Salem in over a decade. Admittedly, I thought we'd get this one, but I wasn't surprised we lost. I was surprised at just how badly we played though. That was bothersome.

all we need to do is get another NFL level quarterback and we'll be back to winning Tire Bowls again. Brilliant observations.

You really can't get your expectations up with NCSU football. Ever.I'll be happy with (1) nine win season in the next decade.

man, get out of this thread. I remember the days of P.Riv and those crazy games against Texas Tech and other teams when they were in the hunt for 3rd or 4th in the ACC

I still can't believe the audacity of the Maryland players who fought our marching band and then threw oranges on the field
10/14/2013 8:18:02 PM
I agree with the general sentiment around here. If you were to replace our not so good players with better players we'd be a better team.Thankfully, UNC is terrible this year and we will still be small favorites against them probably. That's all that matters. The other season was over the minute Mitchell went down.

I was bummed out because this could have been a 9 win season without the injuries but then i realized that would still only get us 3rd in our division so maybe its better we wait for clemson and fsu to cool down before we blow our load.
