I'd think anything less than $200 that is that big would be sketchy

the first birthday is more for the parents/family than for the 1 year old.You can rent a picnic shelter at Pullen Park for $50.00 for 3 hours. My son will be 1 in November and I'm just having family/close friends over for dinner (and of course, cake and ice cream!)

Might be a bit further out than you wanna travel. But my family has a farm in Johnston County (exit 319 on I40, maybe 25 minutes from NCSU campus) and you can rent out the barn (essentially a big warehouse) for parties and such. They also do hayrides and stuff like that for the kids this time of year. If you want I can pm you more info.I'm not exactly sure how much they charge though. But they've had bday parties in the past...and even a wedding/buy an ad[Edited on October 9, 2013 at 8:50 PM. Reason : Dff]

Even as a parent i dont see the point in spending a fortune but his mother doesnt see it that way. Id like it to be special just as much as her but rather save $ for the inevitable braces ,broken bones, college etc this is me trying to compromise. Mid nov =backyard/shelters wont work.

if you can drop the alcohol, i'd try some churches or fire stationsorget a friend who lives in an HOA-with-clubhouse neighborhood and ask them to book it for you[Edited on October 9, 2013 at 9:13 PM. Reason : ]

An HOA Clubhouse is the way to go. Ours was only 125 for the day and they even cleaned it. Playground adjacent if the weather is good, nice furniture, and large fridge available.
