HEYYALL WATCH DIS!
9/16/2013 8:49:42 AM
what is going on? it looks like the ship turned....but the opposite way of the way they want it to.
9/16/2013 8:57:16 AM
maybe not
9/16/2013 8:58:23 AM
I dont get it, why dont they just disassemble it? Do they plan on trying to fix it? Seems like a lot of effort to stand it updisclaimer: I know nothing about this operation or the finer details of marine salvaging[Edited on September 16, 2013 at 9:00 AM. Reason : asdf]

From what I've read; they first need to get it upright, which is what they're doing now. They've built a cradle or some structure next to the wreck that they ship will settle into. Once it's resting there I think they're going to try and patch it up, pump the water out and tow it off.

looks to me like one end is turning and one is notthis would be a lot more entertaining if they had hired some rednecks from eastern nc to do it.

I think disassembly is the end goal, they just have to get it somewhere they can safely do so.

Video not working on ipad
9/16/2013 9:28:46 AM
It is pretty much in slow motion, you can come back to it every 5-10 mins and see some progress, but I think its supposed to to take all day. I have it up on my left monitor and working on the right one.

My gf's company provides site forecasts for the company in charge of this 4x day
9/16/2013 9:32:55 AM
looks like they are making some progressI wonder if they are filling those huge boxes with water to serve as a counterweight yet. They are supposedly turning the ship with cables, and those boxes are to pull it back lever.
9/16/2013 9:47:28 AM
I hope that graphic is incorrect. Seems like you'd want a holdback cable at the top of the caissons on the port side.
9/16/2013 9:49:51 AM
once they flip it its still gonna be like another however many days because they have to build those boxes on teh starboard side.... then they will float it again using the boxes
9/16/2013 9:58:25 AM
Paint dries faster than this ship is moving
9/16/2013 10:25:43 AM
I'll wait for the time elapsed video.
9/16/2013 10:59:57 AM
it looks like some of the cameras are fixed mount so they should have a pretty badass time elapsed video
9/16/2013 11:35:32 AM
^yes. I imagine Discovery is there filming as well. It'll make for a pretty decent special in a few weeks/months.
9/16/2013 11:45:14 AM
are they going to continue this into the evening? It's about 6PM local time and getting dark. Don't know if they need daylight to see or what.

9/18/2013 9:44:28 AM
there is way more crap on teh right side of the boat now maybe they can use the amt of water in those big boxes to make it tow level
9/18/2013 9:50:41 AM
its currently sitting on a support platformnow they are using a robot sub to check out the damage the next phase is to attach something like 15 ballasts to each side to float it to a port for dismantling[Edited on September 18, 2013 at 10:34 AM. Reason : sdf]
