I got a couple of mean junkyard hounddog mugs that act real hard but i've never been in a situation such that they had to come to aid in my survival. I assume if the situation presented itself, they would help...Anybody actually have experiences where their family dog came to the rescue? Manes best friend mane.

My grandmother (RIP Mott) once pulled a big ass soaking wet German Shephard out of Lake Norman. The mug was ill as fuck, old school Great Depression will and determination, ya dig?

Two dogs saved my mom from a bad fall back about 2002. She fell and broke her arm and my dog was always at her side. He got real agitated and barked two real high pitch sharp barks and my aunt's dog ran from her house (1/4 mile away). She has multiple heart problems and was greying out but they licked her face and yelped to wake her up. Then one dog got on either side of her and nudged her arms onto their backs and stood there as support so she could get up and call the amberlamps.if they hadn't been there I'm fairly certain she would have either died of fatigue or suffered swelling bad enough to require amputation.TRUE STORYI should write to Reader's Digest...

then you are the second person on my "blacklist"Ground zero is the only other name on that listguess what happened to him
9/11/2013 10:47:04 PM
no, but he has farted in my face on numerous occasions. fucker
9/12/2013 12:00:13 AM
not saved per say but I've set him off on people trespassing on my property and he gave chase, but I called him off last second. He's a German Shepherd and I trained him for Shutzhund (never actually competed) so I was pleased. His daughter bit the shit out of a jogger that she thought was running towards my grandfather. That ended up with a law suit.edit: as an adult I realized I shouldn't have set him on anyone unless it was a life or death situation, for his sake and my own. so yeah, that was dumb on my part but my dog truly is a badass. a few years ago one of my best friends dog (greatest, most sweet dog ever, btw) went apeshit over a guy walking up to us in one of the baseball fields in Pullen. she is the most calm/reserved dog I've ever met, but she gave barks and growls we didn't know she was capable of. anyways, the dude ran away and we saw him throw something into the bushes. after a few minutes, we went up to see that he had thrown a knife in those bushes.it was a pretty rad feeling

^,^^ just what i was looking for. I reckon the majority of people get dogs because they like them..not as a preventative measure for protection. BTTT for more information, yadig?

No but I've saved my dog's lazy ass like 12 times.
9/18/2013 9:17:29 AM
Neither of my dogs have ever saved me, but they definitely know when I'm hurt or sick. When I bring them in the house, they usually just eat their dinner then get on their beds for the night. But if I'm sick they won't leave my side. And whenever me and my GF argue (which is really rare), my dog stands right in front of me as if to protect me. If we raise our voices, he starts barking.

we are dog sitting my gf's mother's dog right nowthis dog is nearly 16 years old and it is patheticits quality of life is totally shit - it can't see or hear anything and its hips are screwed upit has to wear a cone because its fur is falling out and it will just chew itself bloody given the opportunityall it seems good for is making sure I don't sleep by whimpering, moaning and barking at nothingat what point is it merciful to kill the dog?

^ My Mom recently just put her dog down, and he was in a similar state. He was a pug, I want to say he was 12 or 13. Same deal, blind and deaf. Hips were so bad that he could barely stand up. She used to have to carry him outside to use the bathroom, otherwise he would just shit and piss all over himself. When she put him down she was really sad, but she said she probably should have done it 2 years ago.

someone tried to break into my house and our dog must have gone batshit crazy because they mostly kicked in the back door but left before entering. (only the dog was home, and it was broad daylight)
9/18/2013 9:44:55 AM
if I'm ever asked to watch this dog again I'm going to have it euthanized
9/18/2013 9:47:20 AM
Oh yeah, when I lived on Thea someone tried to break into my house and my dog at the time (Rottie mix) deterred them. Their was a big shoe print on the door and the door jam was broken. We weren't home at the time though, so I don't really look at that as saving me.

I have a 12 year old pug that I have to carry outside to let her use the bathroom. But I only do it because she's really fucking lazy and I don't have all day to stand there with the door open.

I have seen hundreds of dogs who detect ied's, preventing us from detonating them or getting near them. It was an everyday occurrence a dog saving humans . Sadly, we did see it where the dog didn't survive and the handler did. One dog detected the ied, then detected the ambush direction before the bad guys opened up, and was credited for saving over alot of lives. Best part of my job, working with the dogs. Worst part, seeing the handlers say goodbye to the mortally wounded dogs.

my dog brightens my day and increases my mood because she makes me smile and laugh, which is a key component to longevity, so i guess you could say she saves my life every day

I don't think this qualifies as 'saving my life' but my dog def has this instinct built inSo the back story to this is that I used to have a room mate that sold all kinds of drugs out of our house and had a customer in the house nearly every 20 minutes during the day, and these customers were apparently allowed to walk freely in and out of our house, no knocking or anything. This made me very uneasy and made me worried for my dog, who is a rescue who has 'trust' issues with people. I told him that our dog will bite someone she doesn't know that comes into the house. So his solution was to lock her in my room without food or water all day while I was at work and he sat on the couch selling drugs. I wasn't cool with this, when his lease ended he was gone.Soooo.... a few months after this piece of crap moved out my new room mate was downstairs and I was upstairs and I heard my dog ferociously barking and growling and some yelling and screaming, and I was like 'ohhhhh shit'. I run downstairs to find this random guy pinned up against out door yellling about getting my dog off. I look down and my dog has her mouth open just enough to cup the guys balls in her mouth to hold him there. Well it turns out the guy was looking for some drugs sold by my piece of crap old room mate.My dog was patted on the back and given a bone.I love my dogalso

My childhood dog (RIP Shadow) saved me from a couple of chow chows. I was on a golf cart and they were catching up to me and biting at my shoes. My dog jumps off the golf cart and takes both of them down pretty quickly. The dogs ran away yelping and my dog returns to the golf cart unharmed. He was a bad ass. My current dog tries to keep me and Peter separated. I'm not sure if it is out of jealousy or protection, though.

One time my cousin Timothy was playing with the family dog at an old farm house on the neighboring property, when he tripped and fell into an old dried up well. He probably would have died there if it wasn't for our collie, who came running back to our house, barking incessantly and running in circles. She lead ma and gramps to the well where they were able to fetch him out with the help of some of the ranch hands.[Edited on September 19, 2013 at 1:35 PM. Reason : .]
