Maybe she should go to a gym instead of an amusement park. I saw something I'd never seen before at carowinds this year. They have practice seats for fat people to see if they can fit before you waste your energy standing in lane.

yep, sorry fat people, but you shouldn't ride roller coasters. that's not to say that she's at fault, but if i was 300 pounds, i wouldn't feel safe getting on a roller coaster.

if there was a weight limit it should have been clearly displayed... i don't fault her for getting on the ride.

You ride every ride at your own risk whether you are 5'10 180lbs or not. If I go down a 15' water slide and die then that is my fault. Take some responsibility for fucks sake.

yes there is the inherent risk of doing anything (even though you are much more likely to die on the car ride to the amusement park than you are on any of the rides)

Seems like they would design one section of the roller coaster cars for great big fat asses anymore.

^ exactly. The people that run these rides are typically college kids looking to make some beer money over summer vacation.

It's cheaper for them to hire a bunch of chucklefucks who don't give a shit and pay out the rare settlement for accidents, which they most likely have insurance for anyway.

Every coaster I've been on had ride attendants who came around and checked to make sure the restraints were properly secured before letting the ride go. It's not rocket science. Assuming there wasn't a hardware failure, someone clearly fucked up and it's not the person who fell out of the ride. You're a pretty shitty person if you think the victim is in any way complicit.

I'll never forget the night I saw that video for the first time (probably 5-6 years ago). I was staying at my parents house, and woke them both up from my uncontrollable laughter. I had tears streaming down my face for a good 20 minutes.

fucking janice.

The manufacturer B&M (built Top Gun/Afterburn and Intimidator at Carowinds) actually does just this on many of their rides. One row will have larger seats.

This is not it, but what happened it almost certainly similar to that video.

It sounds like the operator screwed up in that the woman was complaining that she didn't feel secure and they let the ride go anyway. I feel for the attendant a bit though because as someone who has both operated rides and ridden thousands of them, this is something you hear a hundred times a day. It's kind of a boy who cried wolf scenario. In the end, though, this is probably more a case of design failure. The green light came on signaling that the restraint was down past the minimum point that it must come down to dispatch the ride. There have been a couple past incidents on rides with very similar restraint types to this where a very large guest was ejected because the lap bar did not properly secure them.

On the vast majority of roller coasters, you could probably ride without a restraint at all and be just fine. This particular coaster though has some of the most extreme airtime of any ride out there.

I know when I went to Busch Gardens a few weeks ago one or two of the rides I could only get secured down on the first "click". I am not the smallest person but I am nowhere near the size of fat people so I can see where some of those would not close on anyone even moderately overweight.
