Looks like the back tail-section of the plane clipped a stone barrier dividing the runway and a body of water. Per Wikipedia the planes average 314 to 451 passengers.

I thought the same at first, just takes some getting used to.

I'm at SFO now, waiting on flight back to CLT. Perfect vantage of the fire from our gate. All flights cancelled, had to rebook for a red eye flight tonight. Fun with a 10month old! ?? Small inconvenience though compared to those on board, so not complaining.
7/6/2013 5:10:38 PM
I blame it on some dyke.

I understand it was trying to be funny, but it wasn't successful. Even if it was, still not classy. Google the word "classy".

Fermat sucksif he dies an untimely death I will quietly celebrate
7/6/2013 7:46:21 PM
This is clearly a test run of a super-secret gov't weapon for taking down aircraft in flight. It's obvious a laser weapon of some kind vaporized one of the engines during landing maneuvers. They are probably going to use this on whatever plane Snowden gets on to kill him
7/6/2013 7:54:47 PM
Surprised nobody in this thread has mentioned the fact that it's an Asian Airline or made any racist comments about Asians not knowing how to drive/fly yet...
7/6/2013 8:13:46 PM
you just did but you blamed society for it

I know that's a joke, but Korean Air has been the best airline I've ever flown on

how are 60 people still missing? did they leave the airport?
7/6/2013 8:39:55 PM
yeah they think people got picked up by their families/SOs and haven't reported back
7/6/2013 8:43:35 PM
Lol plane could have been full of known terrorists and they crashed to avoid customs.
7/6/2013 8:46:47 PM
obviously the Koreans just attacked us. world war 3 bitches.
7/6/2013 9:14:11 PM
Early reports said the plane was coming in at an awkward angle, so it may have been a cross wind landing gone bad. That sucks.

7/6/2013 9:33:50 PM
777 is an impeccable plane. Hard for me to believe this could've anything other than pilot error, bad crosswinds, or possibly a bird strike just before crossing the threshold. All it would take is a drop of 50 feet or so to nail that jetty.
7/6/2013 10:27:29 PM
7/6/2013 11:19:20 PM
clearly korean terrorists.
7/6/2013 11:23:37 PM
^^^^ bourne ultimatumnice
7/6/2013 11:35:10 PM
of course it was crosswinds. ask emce, duke or wraith what the AD cross section of these beasts is. They shouldn't be allowed in the fucking sky but for their ability to fly in zero aero lift like a rocket
7/6/2013 11:38:04 PM
Asiana Airlines doesn't have a particularly good track record and this certainly doesn't help their cause...

7/7/2013 1:54:15 PM
Was it Outliers that had a whole chapter on how Koreans are bad pilots?
7/7/2013 2:19:22 PM
On a basis of culture and power differential in conversation for Koreans does not allow them to effectively communicate critical information efficiently enough. Ones from the US are just like all other US pilots.]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Orw3rbj5MILooks exactly like what was stated earlier. Without ILS assisted landing, the pilot flying it in manually came in too low, tried to pull up and had a tailstrike on the seawall. Crazy to see that it DID actually do a half somersault with the whole rear of the plane spinning around and half rising in the air. Damn near looks like it was trying to flip over. If that had happened, the death count would have probably been a LOT higher.
