Holy shit what a clusterfuck of a finish on stage 1. One of the promo busses got stuck under the finish line ahead of the riders and they're going to take the 3km result. I don't know if they're going to be able to get word to the riders. We may not even have a sprint finish.

What a way to start the 100th TDF.

Team time trial (which was a couple stages ago) is one of the most interesting stages to watch. You don't really get an appreciation of just how fast they're going until you see the time trial stages, then you realize that they're going as fast as your car is most of the time.

The race actually sort of begins in earnest today with the first actual climbs of the race. Probably won't see a lot of separation, but stages like today's will begin to show who is a contender for the overall and who isn't.

That was a fucking impressive ride by Cannondale today. Put the hammer down and got Sagan a ton of sprint points.

Spoiler**

Pretty friggin disgusting display today... Times and wattage numbers had been going back down over the last few years indicating a cleaner peloton. Not today. Froome and Porte just destroyed several former tour winners, a Fuentes client, a Ferrari client and a flying columbian. They logged the third fastest time up that climb in Tour history. Who were 1 and 2? You guessed it, cheaters (Armstrong was #2). Top 10 today was filled with either convicted cheaters and/or those with sketchy ties (except for Froome and Porte who just smashed them all).

To me it looks pretty damn familiar to Armstrong's USPS teams. I hate this sport so much sometimes.

Yeah, it's certainly suspicious, though Porte looks to have paid for it today as he finished 18 minutes behind the leaders today.

^^^Seemed to be great team tactics by Movistar and Garmin early to isolate Sky, but Froome didn't seem to have an issue today. It seems like if Movistar had kept the pressure up on the last climb, they may have been able to hurt him a bit, but they threw Quintana up the road a few times and then gave up. Really glad to see Dan Martin get the stage win, though.

^^What's hilarious about the doping issue from those who support other sports is they (ignorant folks like burro) assume that the problem is isolated in cycling or at least that cycling is the worst. That idea is ridiculous considering the relatively tight testing and lower financial incentive to cheat that cycling has compared to the NFL, MLB, NBA and professional soccer in Europe which all have laughably loose and beatable PED policies compared to the Tour de France. Yes, dopers routinely get caught in cycling, but that's partly because they are doing some things right when it comes to testing.

So make fun of cycling all you want, but know that many of your favorite sports stars are on something as well.

Cheating is rampant in the sport and saying it happens in other sports is a horrible way to defend it.

I think they should just let them all dope like crazy. I'd tune in to see a juiced up blood infused guy in a leotard peddle a schwin 40 miles an hour up a hill with a 50% chance his heart will explode over this farce of an event that exists now.

Dude, I'm with you. Cheating fucking sucks and is a problem in cycling even now though it has gotten better in recent years since they began using the biological passport. Fact is, they have by far the stingiest testing and doping control of any professional sport which is part of the reason why their doping problem is so visible. Cyclists are constantly getting caught.

I was only pointing that out for people who want to point the finger at cycling as though it is somehow worse than any other sport. You wanna talk about a PED problem? Look at the inhumane meatheads in the NFL. Let's talk about the NBA having four scheduled (no random) PED tests a year and none in the playoffs.

And yes, it is important to frame the conversation this way because we have one fucking cycling thread a year and it gets constantly shit on by ignorant dildos like burro while we have literally hundreds of threads about the other major sports and nary a word is said about cheating and the PED problems they have.

I don't doubt that there's doping in the NFL or MLB. But when is the last time they had to revoke a championship because of it? When is the last time they revoked a championship and then couldn't award the championship to anyone else because they couldn't find someone who was actually clean to whom to award it? When's the last time that essentially an entire decade of championships were negated due to doping?

There may be doping in other sports, but it's so damned rampant in cycling as to make it laughable to consider cycling a competition any more. it's a doping arm's race and that's sad. The entire sport rests on the foundation of doping at this point. You simply can't say that about any other sport, other than maybe body building and strongmen competitions. Baseball had Barry Bonds and Mark Mcgwire, and they've been roundly vilified by damned near everyone. Cycling has the last twenty years of the sport, and all its defenders can do is point to a couple juicers in other sports. See a difference there? Cause I sure as hell do.

You apparently missed my whole post. There hasn't been any vacated championships because they do bare minimum testing. They don't fucking catch anyone, much less whole teams which would be required if they wanted to disqualify a champion.

If you think PEDs aren't just as rampant, if not moreso, in other professional sports, you are even dumber than your post history suggests.

Get back to me when any other sport has every player of any note whatsoever juicing for over two decades, k?

Also, do you maybe think one of the reasons there isn't a metric shit ton of testing in other sports because those other sports don't have a history of 100% of their players juicing? Cycling didn't all of a sudden start testing out of the goodness of its heart. It did so because everyone knew the sport was a total joke because everyone was juicing, including the guys driving the chase vehicles. Cycling started a massive testing program because it HAD to in order for anyone to take it seriously again.

lol like the NFL would revoke a championship if someone on the winning team got busted for PED's. The Seadderal Seahawks are going to have a handful of guys suspended for, what, 4 games each? If the NFL or MLB got blood testing like cycling does...all year, every year, unannounced, etc...I guarantee you that every single title from the last 10 years would be vacated, just on HGH tests alone

Everyone knows MLB and NFL are a total fucking joke when it comes to drugs. Every once and a while someone will get caught because they fucked up their cycles or some shit. HGH? Please...that shit is rampant across american pro sports. Who knows, maybe one day the NFL will get around to testing for it....lol j/k

^^As usual, burro, you're being willfully ignorant.

Did you watch any baseball in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s? There's a fucking STEROIDS ERA in baseball. A whole generation of players were using PEDs with abandon and MLB was complicit. If they wanted to they could probably invalidate every world series winner since 1980 based on steroid use, amphetamine use, and HGH use, but why would they, it would look bad on the sport. Don't even get me started on the NFL. I love the NFL more than any other sport, but they have a huge amount of PED use that the league is not interested in catching or punishing.

Track has the worst PED problem of any sport, but because its showcase is the olympics which does all it can to make sure that no one tests positive and no one pays attention to the guys getting popped every month during the track season. Usain Bolt and Michael Johnson are the only clean sprinters I can think of, and Johnson ran when there was no test for things like EPO and HGH. Chances are that Bolt is just on stuff that there isn't an effective test for.

The only reason that the world anti-doping agency went so hard after Lance was because he was American and a grade a dickhead. If he was European it would have been a much less thorough and less aggressive investigation.

So it's your contention that every MLB starter was juicing for over two decades, as was every NFL starter? I just want to get your exact opinion on this, not to mention your evidence for this claim...
