If there are multiple bystanders that saw this happen, how come not one of them decided to get in their car and follow the sedan, at least until they could get a look at the license plate? How hard would it be to engineer a system where when a car detects that it hit a large enough object that the engine would turn off for say 1 min. Just long enough that you can't just run off.

Person driving was mostly likely drinking as well. If not, they probably would have stopped. You can hit a person jaywalking and not get in trouble. If you were drinking, however, shit gets real.

Two people at fault...unfortunate tragedy occurs. I don't know anyone involved, so my emotions are not affected. Shit happens.

Yes, she is 4 and she looks both ways before crossing, without anybody asking her. In fact, when I cross the street in front of our house without looking and she is with me, she stops me as well and chastises me.

Yes, I assumed things about her actions, but seriously, if you get hit by a car while crossing the street, either:

1) You crossed the street without looking because you didn't hear any car, but there happened to be a silent electric car close by.

2) You looked and there were no cars, but you were just a few meters from a 90 degree intersection and someone came to the intersection, didn't stop at the STOP sign, and quickly turned on to the main street at speed and hit you

3) Or you just didn't look for whatever reason.

Chances are extremely high that it was the last reason. If it was either of the first two or a similar unlikely scenario, I am sorry.

Either way though, a person is dead and they died in a trivial unnecessary way, so yes, that is sad.
